Hobby Lobby's DD wax melts are getting very creative with their blends! They're fantastic scents and in general they throw quite well. With Walmart wax (ScentSationals and Better Homes & Gardens) being so popular, don't overlook DD wax melts at Hobby Lobby!

Elegant Pearl

Notes: Opulent florals & spice

This smells like mulled apple cider with a hint of a sour "brown leaves" note, and perhaps even a smidgen of pine. But there's also a hint of a sweet perfumey note in the background that tempers some of the sourness, although this is not a very sweet scent. It's an odd combination but I kind of like it.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Firewood & Saffron

Notes: Sweet florals & leather

This smells like raw wood, oud (a dark resinous tree sappy woodsy scent), and bergamot (which gives it a little bit of a cologney note, although it's not actually a cologne scent). I think there's also patchouli in this one, and possibly a smidgen of leather. And it's slightly sweeter than these types of woodsy patchouli scents, so maybe also a floral way in the background. Looking at the notes, I'm surprised I don't see patchouli. I love this scent! When melted, there's an odd note in there that makes it smell a little like old perfume, but not enough to be a deal breaker.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Floral Blossoms

Notes: Grapefruit, orange flower & musk

A beautiful scent that smells like orange blossom/neroli (one of my favorite scents), jasmine, and a little bit of musk that gives it a perfumey note. Looking at the notes, I don't smell grapefruit at all, although there is a hint of another note that I can't put my finger on that tempers the sweetness of the floral a tiny bit.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Italian Bergamot & Cashmere

Notes: Sweet citrus & Earl Grey tea

Because of the bergamot I expected this to just be a cologne scent, and it is, but there's also a strong patchouli note. I also smell rich amber, a hint of vanilla, and possibly a smidgen of tobacco. Fantastic scent! Looking at the notes, I don't smell citrus or tea at all.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Oud & Amber

Notes: Vanilla bean & cedar

If the scent name is Oud & Amber, why are the notes vanilla bean and cedar?? This smells like a richer, more full-bodied, intense, slightly smoky and cologney ScentSationals Vanilla Woods. The woodsy note is definitely oud (a deep resinous tree sappy raw wood scent which sounds awful, but it smells great, especially mixed with other notes). I also smell a bit of patchouli, bergamot which gives this a cologne note, and possibly amber which gives it a rich warmth. I don't smell vanilla, but I do detect a bit of cedar. Fantastic scent!

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Peony & Yuzu

Notes: Fresh blooms & tangerine

On cold sniff this smells like grapefruit, a bit of tropical fruit, and maybe a hint of sweet floral. There may also be a smidgen of lemon and light wood way in the background, and possibly a barely detectable hint of bergamot that gives this an ever so slight cologney note. But melted, it just smells like grapefruit and a light wood note, and no floral notes really; actually it's kind of bitter, not really sweet. It smells a little bit like Victoria's Secret Love Spell dupes to me (ScentSationals Magic Spell, Scentsy Lucky in Love, Tuscany Stressless), but with slightly different notes. Looking at the scent notes, if the scent name is Peony & Yuzu, why are the notes different from the scent? I don't smell tangerine or orange, but yuzu is a citrus scent that smells like a mix of bergamot, kumquat, bitter grapefruit, and lime. So there are the bergamot, grapefruit and lemon notes I detect on cold sniff. This scent is just "okay" to me, but not my favorite. But since it's similar to Love Spell dupes, I think most people will like it.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Rosewood Blooms

Notes: Rose petals, fig & vanilla

I love this scent! It smells like sweet old-fashioned rose scented soap mixed with red currant (a very slightly tart, fig-like soapy scent with a very slight berry note, although there is no berry note in this scent). Looking at the notes, I don't smell vanilla at all. Melted, it's a beautiful rose scent with a slight soapy note and a smidgen of a rich warm ambery note. It's not a perfumey rose, and it's not even overly sweet. This may be my favorite scent in this collection.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Sea Salt & Lotus

Notes: Ocean mist & exotic florals

This smells like orange blossom/neroli and cucumber. It's fresh and... odd, like the notes don't belong together. When melted, it's a beachy scent. The orange blossom gives it a Coppertone suntan oil note, but there's something a little bitter, metallic and chemical-like in the background that I don't care for. It's not enough to ruin the scent for me, but I think it would smell better without it. It's still a very nice scent.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Splash

Notes: Ocean breeze, lavender & amber

A pleasant fresh watery ocean type scent that smells a little bit like shower gel. I do detect a bit of the lavender, but it's subtle. It's a nice scent, but a bit bland.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 out of 5

Sweet Essence

Notes: Cotton candy, melon & musk

This smells like sweet cantaloupe, with maybe a hint of grapefruit and possibly a smidgen of a cotton candy note. It's not a pink sugar scent at all. Looking at the notes, I don't smell musk at all, as it's not a perfumey scent. Melted, it smells like sweet cantaloupe nectar, if there were such a thing. It's very sweet, but with a little sourness of the cantaloupe (but it's not watermelon). I don't hate it, but it's not one of my favorites.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Unicorn Dreams

Notes: Plum blossom & magnolia

A lovely jasmine type scent with a tiny bit of a soapy note and a hint of something else I can't put my finger on, apple I think. I don't smell plum, or really any fruit notes, but I think a smidgen of apple may be way in the background.

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Aromatherapy Collection

I'm not sure why this is called the aromatherapy collection. I don't believe these are made with essential oils, but it's okay because, like most of their scents, they smell great.

Calm (No. 06)

Description: Calm your soul with this soothing blend of sandalwood & smoky vanilla with hints of earthy amber & patchouli mist

Notes: Sandalwood & Incense

This is a strong men's cologne scent but there's also a harshness in the background that smells a little like rubbing alcohol and something else I can't figure out, like a weird chemical note. Looking at the notes, I guess I do detect a hint of wood, but "incense" doesn't tell me much. The candle has a more detailed description which the wax melt does not, and the additional notes are vanilla, amber and patchouli. When melted, that harshness is still there and makes it smell like really old perfume. It's a bit headache inducing (the opposite of a scent called "Calm"!)

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Cleanse (No. 3)

Description: Cleanse your spirits with this invigorating blend of eucalyptus and lemongrass, complemented with orange zest and a hint of lavender & vanilla.

Notes: Lemongrass & Tangelo

A great, energizing lemongrass scent. It doesn't have that soapy note that plain lemongrass tends to have. Tangelo is a cross between a grapefruit and tangerine and supposedly has a light floral note; I think I do detect a smidgen of grapefruit, but no floral although it's a little sweeter than plain lemongrass. Very nice! After about 3 hours, it started to lost the sweetness and took on a slightly salty, burnt note; still nice, but smelled better earlier on.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Fresh (No. 05)

Description: Refresh your senses with this invigorating blend of zesty grapefruit and juicy guava contrasted with sweet blooming rose & peony.

Notes: Rose & grapefruit

This is a red currant scent. Red currant is a very slightly tart, fig-like soapy scent with a very slight berry note and only a smidgen of sweetness. It's a very sophisticated note that, when mixed, makes other scents smell classy. I also smell the grapefruit, but I don't smell rose at all. It's quite possible the combination of rose and grapefruit is what makes it smell like red currant, so it might not be currant at all. But either way, it's a nice unusual scent. It's very similar to Goose Creek Candle's Orange Berry Slush, and also smells a bit like Better Homes & Gardens Red Wood Pomegranate from 2014.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Relax (No. 04)

Description: Relax with this calming blend of mandarin citrus and wild mint layered with subtle creamy notes of cedarwood and vanilla.

Notes: Mandarin & Mint

This smells like lemongrass, with that slightly soapy note, but it's also quite sweet (lemongrass is not sweet), and the sweetness smells a little like melon I think. But I'm also getting a nasal clearing effect so there's also mint in this one although it doesn't actually smell minty. And maybe a smidgen of orange? When melted, the lemongrass note is more subtle and it smells like sweet melon candy with a little lemon and orange, and I don't smell the mint at all. Looking at the notes, okay mandarin is orange, and I'm surprised I don't see melon or lemon. It seems like melon is a note in some of the scents in this new collection. This is a very unique scent, and I really like it!

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Uplift (No. 02)

Description: Retreat into a fresh and renewing aroma of crisp lemon and succulent bergamot followed by the scent of watery jasmine and white lily blossoms

Notes: Bergamot & Lemon Peel

I smell sweet orange blossom/neroli with a citrusy note, orange maybe. And bergamot I think, which gives it a little bit of a fresh slightly soapy cologney note, although it's not a cologne scent. Looking at the scent notes, the lemon is very subtle, smells more like a smidgen of orange to me. When melted, I just smell orange blossom with a little bit of a soapy note. It's pleasant and not overly sweet.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

I didn't find No. 01 or No. 07 in the aromatherapy melts collection. I called several Hobby Lobby stores, and as of October 2018 none of them have any products in 01, no information on it like the name of the scent, no space in their display for it, and no plans to order it. However, No. 07 (Tranquil - Ginger Root & Ylang Flower) was available in candles and air fresheners in one of the stores, but no wax melts. There is also a No. 08 - (Rejuvenate - Verbena & Eucalyptus), which I only saw in the room spray. And No. 10 (Soothe - Lavender & Oakwood); I did review the wax melt in this scent last year.

If I find any of these additional scents, I'll add them to this review.

Flourish

Notes: Tulips, rich blond wood and musk

This smells like an expensive women's perfume with a hint of warm amber and a little bit of a gardenia note. Very nice!

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Iridescence

Notes: Warm vanilla bean and white musk

This is a pink sugar type scent (a sweet sugary perfumey scent with hints of raspberry), but it's more rich and warm, with an ambery almost slightly smoky note, not as perfumey, and only a barely detectable smidgen of raspberry (not as much as in most pink sugar scents).

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Lavish Velvet

Notes: Bergamot, orange blossom and soft Tonka

This one is really hard to describe. I smell notes of apple, wood, floral, cologne, pine, berry, vanilla, and even a hint of marshmallow, but not necessarily in that order, and all the notes are very subtle, with not one note standing out above the others. It's a very complex scent. I like it though. After a few hours it took on a bit more of the apple blossom vanilla marshmallow note, and I don't smell as much of the wood, pine and cologne notes (not that they were strong to begin with).

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Madagascar Vanilla & Cedar

Notes: Madagascar vanilla and cedar woods

A nice strong cedar scent with a sweet very slightly perfumey note (although this is not a perfume scent), and maybe a hint of patchouli. It also has a note that's not really sour, but more "pungent", that I don't care for. I just realized that this is an almost exact dupe of AmbiEscents Sophisticated Spice.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Persian Citron

Notes: Bright tangerine balanced with white musk

This reminds me a little of Yankee Honey Clementine. It smells like strong tea with a lot of honey, a little bit of a fruity almost candy-like orangey note, and maybe a smidgen of lemon. But it's not a citrusy scent. I don't smell musk or any perfumey notes at all, although it's a little sweet but also very rich. It's a difficult scent to describe. I don't care for it on cold sniff, but I like it when melted.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Pomegranate Sorbet

Notes: Pomegranate, loganberries, cassis, satinwood and cranberry

A rich dark berry scent. It's just a little sweet. I smell the tanginess of the cranberry, and a hint of zestiness like a smidgen of lemon that gives it a tiny bit of a tropical note.

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Summer Breeze & Linen

Notes: Clean linen & sunshine

This is actually an older scent but I never bought it because I didn't like it on cold sniff, and I don't care for it when melted either. It's a fresh scent with maybe a bit of an herbal note, and possibly a smidgen of lemon. It's not sweet at all, actually kind of bitter, and has a little bit of an industrial cleaner note. It doesn't smell like linen or laundry at all. However, after about an hour that "industrial" note dissipated and it started to smell like green grass, so I kind of liked it after that!

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Tanzanite

Notes: Crisp morning air and citron berry

This is very weak on cold sniff, but it smells like a fresh air, watery scent with a hint of a berry note and maybe a barely detectable smidgen of orange. Melted, however, it's kind of a perfumey vanilla scent with a hint of berry.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 to 3 out of 5

Tonka & Oud

Notes: Soft cashmere and bergamot

The warm, sweet, velvety cashmere is the main note, but I also smell a little bit of a rich cologne note (the bergamot) and even a hint of baby powder. Oud is a damp intense woodsy scent with tree sap and cedar notes, and I think I do smell as well, but it's subtle. I really like this scent.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Velvet Tonka Bean

Notes: Warm tonka bean, spices and musk

This is definitely a winter scent! I smell a strong combination of cedar and pine, with a little bit of a raw woodsy note, and a smidgen of bergamot or warm amber or even a barely detectable cologne note, although it's definitely not a cologne scent. It has the crispness of pine and a little bit of the warmth of amber. I adore this scent and it's crazy strong on cold sniff.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Vanilla Orchid

Notes: Warm notes of tonka bean and hothouse flowers

This scent is not available in a melt, so I bought a small 4 oz. candle to chunk. It's a super warm rich vanilla scent with an amber note, and so warm it almost has a smokiness to it. I think there's also a sweet buttercream note, although it's not really a foodie scent because it also smells perfumey, but not really floral, and might have a hint of sweet tobacco in it. It's a completely different scent from Iridescence. Actually, I decided not to melt this one. I like the scent, but not enough to deal with hassle of chunking it up.

DD (Hobby Lobby) Wax Melts Reviews

DD (Hobby Lobby) Wax Melts Reviews

Video

DD (Darsee & David) candles and wax melts are made exclusively for Hobby Lobby. They come out with a handful of new scents a few times a year. Most of the scents in this review are brand new, within the past few months. I enjoy the DD (Hobby Lobby) scented wax melts, and I especially like that they show the scent notes right on the label.

Amber Petals

Notes: Frosted citron, amber, cedarwood and neroli

This smells like warm, rich musky old-fashioned honeysuckle perfume. DD also has (or used to have) a scent called Honeysuckle Bouquet, which was different from this scent (more soapy and not as sweet and rich, like honeysuckle scented soap). Looking at the scent notes, I do detect the neroli in the background, which is a scent I love. And the amber of course adds the warmth. I don't smell cedar, and I definitely don't smell citrus. I'm surprised I don't see honeysuckle or musk in the notes. I really like this scent.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Apple Spiced Cider

Notes: Cinnamon, red apple & clove

A typical fall cinnamon apple scent. This one smells a bit better than other similar scents I've smelled. It's more authentic and doesn't have that waxy note that some cinnamon apple scents have.

Throw: Mild, 3 out of 5

Christmas Tree

Notes: Pine needles, fir balsam & wintergreen

A fantastic blue spruce scent with a woodsy note. It's not a biting pine scent or a smoky scent, and it's different and more authentic than most of the pine type scents I've smelled, with that aldehyde type of note that I love in Colonial Candle's Blue Spruce scent. Looking at the scent notes, wintergreen has an anise note, but I don't smell anything like that in this scent, or any minty notes either.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5

Exotic Oasis

Notes: Blooming clematis, magnolia, ebony wood and poppies

I love this scent! It's a super sweet floral perfumey scent with a berry note and maybe a hint of marshmallow, a bit like pink sugar. Very girly! Looking at the scent notes, I'm surprised I don't see any fruit since I do smell a little bit of fruit, maybe raspberry or plum.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 to 3 out of 5

Gardenia Blossoms

Notes: Gardenia, jasmine & lilac

This smells like real gardenia. It's not overly sweet or perfumey. It has a little bit of a hothouse or greenhouse floral note. Looking at the scent notes, I do smell the lilac too. It's a nice scent.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Gourmet Taffy

Notes: Buttery salt water taffy at its best

This scent wasn't available when I did this review; hence no picture (I added this review on 12/29/17). It's a sweet candyish scent, but different from the Jelly Bean scent in that it's also rich and buttery. I can't tell what kind of fruit it is; it smells a little like pineapple. And the wax is yellow. It's not overly fruity, but more like a sweet buttery candy scent with a slight fruit note. It's a nice scent, but it only lasted about an hour and a half!

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Grammie's Toffee

Notes: Butter, caramel & vanilla

It's caramel. A nice scent, but just a typical caramel scent. It's slightly salty but not really a salted caramel scent.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Grapefruit & Cinnamon

Notes: Bright citrus & spice

It's an odd combination, but it works. This smells like a tropical berry. I smell the slight bitterness of the grapefruit, although I don't detect grapefruit per se. And I detect a little of the cinnamon, but it smells more like it's just part of the berry scent. It's sweet too, but not overly sweet. I like it. It smells a lot like an old ScentSationals scent called Fiesta (different from Tropical Fiesta). I'm surprised I don't see berries in the notes.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Jelly Bean

Notes: Fruity melange of strawberry, pineapple, banana, grape and orange

This is a fruity candy scent, but I can't figure out what fruit. I think I smell grape, but maybe also a little bit of strawberry and even banana. Looking at the scent notes, they're spot on. I don't smell pineapple or orange though. Although it's a sweet scent, it's slightly less sweet than what I would expect from a jelly bean scent. Actually, it smells more like fruity gumdrops or gummy bears or something like that. It smells a bit like ScentSationals Rock Candy but with slightly different notes, and a little less sweet.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Lavender & Oakwood

Notes: Soft medley of rosewood oak and blond woods wrapped with fresh lavender

This is a medicinal but fresh lavender scent with a eucalyptus note and a hint of light milky sandalwood. It's not a sweet scent, but it does have just a smidgen of sweetness. I like it; it's different.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Sunflower Meadow

Notes: Summer sunflowers in full bloom

This smells like jasmine with maybe a hint of neroli. It's not a warm, rich, musky honeysuckle scent like Amber Petals, and it's different from their old Honeysuckle Bouquet scent. It also has a little bitterness that makes it more authentic and not as perfumey. I don't normally like that bitter note, but it's subtle and doesn't detract from the scent. I like this one.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5, a scent monster that took over the house

Tangerine & White Musk

Notes: Fresh citrus burst of grapefruit and tangerine with lavender and white musk

This is an orange scent with some notes in the background that I don't like. I don't smell musk or anything perfumey at all. It's like orange mixed with peach and something a little bitter or sour, but not sour in a good way like satsuma. Looking at the scent notes, the bitterness is the grapefruit. And I don't smell lavender at all. Actually now that I know it's in there, maybe I do detect it a little, but it doesn't work well at all with the bitterness of the grapefruit.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Warm Cookies

Notes: Sweet milk, creamy butter & vanilla

Super rich vanilla cookies with maybe a hint of brown sugar and smidgen of marshmallow. It's a sweet scent, but not overly sweet, and it's even a little salty, like the butter that makes it rich. It's different from other vanilla cookie scents I've smelled, and I thought I detected a smidgen of chocolate, although it's not in the scent notes.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Water Lily & Bergamot

Notes: Clean water lily and bergamot

A nice green slightly zesty scent with a hint of a cologne note and perhaps a smidgen of a floral undertone. It's similar to White Sage & Eucalyptus, but that scent is more peppery and this one is sweeter and with the cologne and slight floral note. I like this one more.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

White Sage & Eucalyptus

Notes: Sage and eucalyptus intermingled with lime and aromatic black pepper

A zesty herbal scent with a slight peppery note and a smidgen of mint. I guess the mint is the eucalyptus. There's a slight savory note which I guess is the sage, but it's an herbal savory note. Looking at the scent notes, I do detect the lime, which is the zestiness. It's more herbal than zesty. I like it. It's very similar to Water Lily & Bergamot, but this scent is more peppery and that scent is a little sweet and with a cologne note.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Wood Shop

Notes: Fresh cut wood, sweet leather and cologne

I love this scent! It's men's cologne with raw wood and mesquite (salty smoky woodsiness). It's not a real wood shop type scent, as that would have that raw pencil shavings type wood note. And it's not a smoky campfire type scent. It's like a combination of men's cologne and ScentSationals Smoked Birch (or AmbiEscents Aspen Birch, same scent). Looking at the notes, I don't smell leather although it could be way in the background.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Hobby Lobby DD Scented Wax Melts Reviews

Hobby Lobby DD Scented Wax Melts Reviews

Watch video below:

This is a review of some new DD Scented Wax Melts from Hobby Lobby. Although a couple of the new scents I found in June (which I reviewed at http://www.scentedwaxreviews.com/2017/06/hobby-lobby-dd-scented-wax-melts-review.html) used a new harder wax, the scents I'm reviewing below use the older wax which is still hard but has a slightly greasy surface. Hobby Lobby DD wax comes in many other scents, which I reviewed at http://www.scentedwaxreviews.com/2015/12/dd-hobby-lobby-wax-melts-review.html (although some of them have been discontinued).

Coriander & Cassis

Notes: Refreshing Coriander & Cassis

My Review: A fantastic classy berry scent that's not very sweet and has a slight bitter and soapy note, but in a good way. Cassis is a type of currant, similar to fig, with slight cedar, clove and patchouli notes. I definitely smell the cassis, which is the fruity note. Coriander is a a pungent soapy slightly citrusy scent that smells a little like pink peppercorns, and I definitely smell that here too. It smells like their older discontinued scent "Berry & Vanilla Burst", which also smells like Tuscany Candle's "Berry Bliss".

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5

Flower Shop

Notes: Fresh Cut Flowers & Citrus

My Review: A nice authentic flower scent (I think jasmine, rose, and other florals) with green notes. It's bitter and only slightly sweet, but the bitterness is what makes it smell authentic. It's not so bitter that I don't like it though. I don't smell citrus at all.

Throw: Very good, 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Garden

Note: Herb Garden with Mint

My Review: Pungent, savory and herby, like a salad. I smell green herbs like rosemary and sage, and a bit of zest like lemongrass perhaps. This smells almost exactly like Glade Sage & Thyme Market (and Glade Sunset Walk), although the Glade scent is slightly more zesty and I really like it. This scent, however, I don't care for.

Throw: Very good, 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Lavender & Sage

Notes: Fresh Lavender & Sage

My Review: On cold sniff this smells like bug spray to me. It's an artificial bitter lavender scent. But it smells much better melted, like eucalyptus and lavender.

Throw: Fair, 2.5 or 3 out of 5

Lemongrass Verbena

Notes: Lemongrass, Verbena, Crushed Spices

My Review: A fantastic scent, different from other lemongrass verbena scents I've smelled. Usually lemongrass verbena is a little harsh with kind of an industrial or mediciney note. This scent is still zesty but it smells like it has a smidgeon of floral or vanilla in it, which tempers any harshness.

Throw: Very good, 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Midnight Rendezvous

Notes: Cedarwood, Warm Musk, Freesia, Spice

My Review: Nice sweet laundry and men's cologne scent.

Throw: Not good, 2.5 out of 5

Palm Beach

Notes: Sandy Shore, Vanilla & Coconut

My Review: This is a nice sweet coconut scent without any fruity notes. It smells like there may be a bit of vanilla in it and perhaps a smidgeon of light wood like driftwood or sandalwood. Looking at the scent notes, they're spot on.

Throw: Excellent, 5 out of 5, a scent monster that took over the entire house!

Wind River Pine

Notes: Cool Water, Pine Needles & Spice

My Review: This is a nice smoky pine scent with maybe a hint of eucalyptus, but there's something else in there that makes this different from typical smoky pine scents, a smidgeon of milkiness or maybe vanilla, although this is not a sweet scent. The milky note softens the scent and makes it smell a bit like Better Homes & Gardens Winter's Sleigh Ride, but more smoky. It's a nice winter scent, and almost has a yummy foodie quality.

Throw: Very good, 3 or 3.5 out of 5

I did not guy the Woodland Walk scent. It's a pine scent with maybe some eucalyptus, but it also has a bit of a sour sagey note that smells like ScentSationals Mountain Twilight or Better Homes & Gardens Crisp Fall Leaves, a scent that I don't like (but most people do).

Hobby Lobby DD Scented Wax Melts Review

Hobby Lobby DD Scented Wax Melts Review

Hobby Lobby DD Scented Wax Melts Review

I did a review of most of the DD scented wax melts in December 2015. Since then, they hadn't come out with any new scents until Spring 2017, when I did find a couple of new ones. They sold out very quickly though, so I will have to go back after they restock.

The wax in the older melts was a different consistency than the new ones, even the same scents. The older wax was harder and had some bubbles in it. The new wax is still hard, but the surface is smooth and even, without any bubbles, and it has a greasy surface similar to Scentsy wax.

Coastal Vanilla
Notes: vanilla orchid, coastal breeze and white musk
This is definitely a tropical scent. I smell mango I think, or maybe it's pineapple, with a slightly tart lemony, orange or satsuma note. It's a great scent, but I'm surprised I don't see any tropical fruit in the notes. When I reviewed this scent on 12/13/15 it had weak throw, only 2 out of 5, but throw was better this time with the slightly softer Scentsy like wax, around a 3 out of 5.

Coconut Milk & Patchouli
Notes: sweet coconut, sandalwood and exotic patchouli
I reviewed this scent on 12/13/15. This smells like cashmere or amber, with a slight milky coconut note. But the cashmere may just be the combination of the coconut and the patchouli. This is a fantastic and classy scent. It's not a true coconut scent, and not tropical at all. Throw was very good, around a 3.5 out of 5, same as the older wax.

Candied Pecans
Notes: crushed pecan, vanilla & brown sugar
A nutty brown sugar cinnamony scent. Very nice, although I'm so over fall scents and this is pretty much a typical fall bakery scent. Throw was excellent, around a 3.5 or 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent on 12/13/15 (older wax), throw was very good, 3.5 out of 5.

Papaya & Pineapple
Notes: juicy papaya & island pineapple
I'm not a fan of pineapple scents, but the sweet pineapple mixed with the slightly sour papaya smells fantastic. It almost has a slightly lemony note. Throw was excellent, 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this on 12/13/15 (older wax), throw was only good, 3 out of 5.

Sage Teakwood
Notes: warm sage & aged wood
This is a brand new scent. It smells like sweet cedar wood with a warm perfumey or cologney note and a smidgeon of a natural "green" note. It's very nice. Throw was excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5.

Sweet Jasmine
Notes: crisp white jasmine
This is a brand new scent. It was weak on cold sniff. It smells like jasmine perfume with a little gardenia. Throw was not good, around a 2.5 out of 5, but would do well in a small room.

Video:

This is a review of Hobby Lobby DD Wickless Fragrance Cubes scented wax melts. The DD brand is only available at Hobby Lobby (both stores and online, although I think the stores carry a larger and more current selection).
Watch review video above, and also read review text below (there are 7 additional scents at the bottom that are not included in the video).
Both the scent and the throw scores on a scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being the best. The scent score is how much I liked the scent, so it's totally subjective. You may love a scent I dislike, and vice versa.
The throw score is how far the scent throws when melted. 0 means no throw, 1 is poor, 2 is fair, 3 is good, 3.5 is very good, 4 is excellent, and 4.5 is fantastic. 5 means it's a "scent monster" and I could smell the scent even outside the house (very few wax melts are a 5).
Gingerbread
Notes fresh baked gingerbread cookies
Review Very buttery bakery scent with a hint of ginger. Doesn't smell exactly like gingerbread. When melted it smells like very creamy coffee with just a hint of sugar and a smidgeon of ginger, but not an intense coffee scent.
Scent 4
Throw 3.5
Papaya & Pineapple
Notes juicy papaya & island pineapple
Review Papaya with a hint of pineapple. This is a tropical scent, but not an intense tropical scent, and no coconut. I'm not a fan of tropical scents, but this one is nice.
Scent 3
Throw 3
Sweet Memories
Notes spun vanilla sugar, rock candy & gummy treats
Review Super sweet sugary vanilla with a cashmere note, but not like buttercream frosting (it's not a foody scent), more like cotton candy or Pink Sugar without the fruity notes.
Scent 4
Throw 2
Persimmon & Ginger
Notes persimmon & raw ginger
Review It does smell like persimmons, that sweet almost peachy fruit scent, but it's extremely sweet, and I don't smell ginger.
Scent 1.5
Throw 2.5
Cape Cod
Notes bleached woods, oakmoss & cedarwood
Review This has a spa quality to it, a salty soapy scent with a very slight herbal note (like rosemary or oregano) and a smidgeon of mint, even though mint is not one of the notes. It doesn't have the sinus clearing effect that mint has, but it just has that note. It is quite soapy, like a bar of natural herbal soap. But it's not a body wash scent, as it's not really sweet. I don't really smell wood, although maybe a barely noticeable hint of cedar that I wouldn't know was there if I didn't know it was one of the notes. It smells better on cold sniff than when melted; melted, it's a little too "herbal soapy" to me, and would smell better with some sweetness added.
Scent 2.5
Throw 3.5
Berry Cheesecake
Notes blueberries, raspberries & vanilla cheesecake
Review Very strong on cold sniff. I smell the blueberries first, with a raspberry note, and the creaminess of the cheesecake. The berries don't smell authentic, and have a very sweet slightly candy note, but that does not detract from the overall scent. But when melted, something strange happened. The scent took on a very slight sweet baby poop note. My roommate walked in and asked me if the cat had an accident, and I wondered myself.
Scent 3.5 on cold sniff, 1 when melted
Throw 3
Honeysuckle Bouquet
Notes honeysuckle, jasmine & rose
Review A beautiful honeysuckle perfume scent. I definitely smell the honeysuckle, and a little bit of jasmine, and just a smidgeon of rose. It's definitely a perfume scent rather than an authentic flower scent, and has a bit of an old-fashioned quality to it.
Scent 4
Throw 3
Fireside
Notes warming scent of a cozy fireplace
Review Smoky scent with a cologne note and a smidgeon of spiciness (clove I think).
Scent 4
Throw 2
Misty Morning
Notes dew drops, oakwood & green leaves
Review This smells fresh and grassy but also has a slight chocolate note. I'm not sure where the chocolate comes from, but it's definitely there, like a dry spicy woodsy cocoa powder note.
Scent 3.5
Throw 2
Pomegranate & Berries
Notes pomegranate, blackberry & strawberries
Review I smell strawberry first, with a slight tartness (which is probably the blackberry), and another berry note which has a very slight tropical scent (maybe the pomegranate). When melted, there's also a very slight satsuma or lemon scent, which might just be the tartness of the blackberry.
Scent 3.5
Throw 2.5
Coconut Milk & Patchouli
Notes sweet coconut, sandalwood and exotic patchouli
Review This smells like cashmere or amber, with a slight milky coconut note. But the cashmere may just be the combination of the coconut and the patchouli. This is a fantastic and classy scent. When melted, I smell more of the coconut, but it's not a harsh or tropical coconut at all, and it works really well with the patchouli.
Scent 5
Throw 3.5
Mountain Retreat
Notes crisp snow, wintergreen tree & wooden cabin
Review This is very light on cold sniff. I definitely smell wood, kind of like an old raw wood, not a smoky wood. There may be a hint of eucalyptus (although no sinus-clearing effect) and a smidgeon of pine.
Scent 3.5
Throw 1
Sun-Drenched Denim
Notes crisp cotton, summer breeze & blue skies
Review If water had a scent, this would be it. This is the most thirst-quenching wax melt scent I've ever smelled. I smell a slight note of chlorine (like pool water), but also a fresh air note and a slight hint of floral and maybe a barely noticeable smidgeon of cologne.
Scent 4
Throw 5
Rolling Greens
Notes green grass, fresh dew & warm earth
Review This smells like grass, and it's quite authentic! Very "green" and herbal, and fresh with a very slight sweetness but not floral.
Scent 3.5
Throw 2
Lotus Blossom
Notes blooming lotus & water lilies
Review Fresh "green" soapy floral, not overly sweet and not an "authentic" floral. Has a slight men's cologne note; in fact, it smells like a "Cool Water" type men's body wash. A pleasing, relaxing "background" scent that takes on more of the men's body wash notes when melted. I'm not sure under what category I should store this: cologne, floral, or laundry, because it has notes of all three categories, but I've decided it smells like "cologne" the most.
Scent 4
Throw 3.5
Vanilla Souffle
Notes vanilla, tonka bean & creamy coconut
Review Super sweet milky vanilla, almost like vanilla buttercream. I don't really detect coconut, although there is another very subtle chemical note on cold sniff, that actually may be coconut. When melted, it smells like vanilla buttercream (no coconut or chemical notes).
Scent 4
Throw 3
Aged Driftwood
Notes bleached cedar, cool sand & dusty sage
Review This is a spa type scent with clean fresh air, wood, and green herbal notes. I definitely smell the wood, although not cedar per se. I don't know what sand smells like, but this doesn't have any kind of beachy notes. And the green herbal note is the sage. There's no sweetness in this scent, and it has a slight waxy note on cold sniff.
Scent 3.5
Throw 3.5
Cashmere Petals
Notes pink jasmine, white flowers, sugar & creme
Review This is a very girly sweet cashmere and floral perfume scent, like all the perfumes at the store with pictures of a pop star on the front! It's not like Pink Sugar, as there's no berry notes, and there's more floral than Better Homes & Gardens Sugared Lavender Twist.
Scent 3.5
Throw 1
White Birch
Notes golden apples, cashmere, fennel, birch & cedar
Review On cold sniff I smell fresh air, herbal and slightly green, with a barely noticeable apple note and a smidgeon of spearmint. I think the spearmint I'm smelling is actually the fennel. The cashmere/amber is very slight and barely noticeable. I can't figure out this scent. When melted, I smell more of the apple with some other notes, but not wood, so I don't think the name "White Birch" describes this scent at all.
Scent 2
Throw 1.5
Lavender Dreams
Notes drift off with the scent of lavender blossoms
Review This is not a sweet floral lavender, but not an herbal lavender either (no "spa" or "green" notes). On cold sniff it has a slightly industrial note, like lavender scented cleaner but not as "clean" (definitely not a Fabuloso cleaner scent), or old lavender scented soap that lost a lot of its sweetness. But cold sniff doesn't do it justice, as it smells much better when melted, a more authentic lavender scent without anything added. This is a good "blank slate" scent that could be used to make other scents. I would probably add amber and/or vanilla to it, or go for a spa scent by adding lemon and/or sage. Throw started to fizzle after only an hour.
Scent 2.5 on cold sniff, 3.5 when melted
Throw 3
White Gardenia
Notes gardenia, jasmine & lilac
Review A beautiful gardenia perfume scent, and I smell all 3 notes (gardenia first, then jasmine, and a very slight lilac note).
Scent 5
Throw 4
Italian Linen
Notes pressed cotton, green vine & a touch of citrus
Review A nice fresh laundry scent. I don't smell any citrus at all.
Scent 3.5
Throw 2
Oriental Lily & Freesia
Notes freesia, lily & violet
Review A very "green" authentic floral. Smells just like an Easter Lily.
Scent 3.5
Throw 0
Golden Sunset
Notes warm breeze, valencia oranges & fresh water
Review Fantastic and unique scent. I can't really describe this scent, maybe clean and watery, maybe slightly orangey. One of my favorite scents
Scent 5
Throw 3
Spiced Lemongrass
Notes fresh lemongrass, ginger root & bergamot
Review This smells a little like ginger ale with a lime note, maybe like a drink or even a spa scent, with maybe a slight tropical note.
Scent 3
Throw 3
Sage & Citrus
Notes clary sage, clementine & pink grapefruit
Review Fresh clean slightly herbal sweet scent with maybe a slight fruity note, with maybe a sweet lemon note which might actually be the grapefruit. I can't figure out the scent notes.
Scent 4
Throw 3
Amber & Vanilla
Notes warm vanilla, golden amber & smokey myrrh
Review This is slightly spicy soapy scent with a smidgeon of cologne (which may be the myrrh). I do detect a hint of amber, but not any vanilla.
Scent 3.5
Throw 3
Coconut Dream
Notes coconut milk, macadamia nut & vanilla
Review I smell coconut with maybe a smidgeon of barely noticeable nut. It's not a tropical coconut.
Scent 3
Throw 3
Cherry Lime Spritzer
Notes sparkling bing cherries
Review This smells like sweet cherry soda with a slight fizziness. It's not a tart black cherry scent.
Scent 3.5
Throw 3
Berry & Vanilla Burst
Notes tart berries, sweet coconut & caramel
Review This has a fake berry scent, like that from a Tuscany Candle wax melt. It's almost like a Christmas berry like a bayberry, but not cranberry. It has a soapy note, and I don't smell coconut or caramel.
Scent 3.5
Throw 3
Vintage Luxe
Notes amber & caramel with a smokey undertone
Review I smell the smokiness with an amber note, but no caramel. Almost a slight men's cologne note with maybe a smidgeon of vanilla which is probably the caramel. It's not a foodie scent though.
Scent 4
Throw 3
Blackberry Cardamom
Notes hand-picked blackberries & crushed cardamom
Review I'm not sure what cardamom smells like, but this smells like a Christmas scent, cinnamon with a berry note.
Scent 3
Throw 3.5
Beach Getaway
Notes ocean air with a hint of vacation
Review A typical fresh air scent with a hint of saltiness. No particular notes stand out. It also smells a little like body wash, either feminine or masculine, and it's not overly sweet. I have a lot of fresh air scents very similar to this one.
Scent 3.5
Throw 3
Raindrop
Notes lotus blossom, water mist & dewy moss
Review Fresh air scent with a lemon note and a hint of soapiness. The lemon is not strong, and it's not really a sweet scent. It smells like dish detergent, so it would be great for a kitchen. When melted, it has a watery note with a subtle sweetness that makes it smell even better than it does on cold sniff.
Scent 5
Throw 4
Christmas Morning
Notes fir balsam, clove & mandarin
Review I smell cinnamon, berries and cloves, with a hint of pine. The pine almost smells like fresh green grass.
Scent 3.5
Throw 4
Pumpkin Pie
Notes pumpkin puree, nutmeg & baked pie crust
Review This doesn't smell like pumpkin pie on cold sniff. It smells like sweet buttery caramel or butterscotch.
Scent 4
Throw 3.5
Candied Pecans
Notes crushed pecan, vanilla & brown sugar
Review I definitely smell the nut, plus the sweetness of the brown sugar, and maybe a barely noticeable trace of cinnamon. This is light on cold sniff. It smells much better melted than on cold sniff. Melted, it almost has a slight perfumey quality to it, which smells amazing when mixed with the brown sugar and nuttiness.
Scent 3.5 on cold sniff, 5 when melted
Throw 3.5
Coastal Vanilla
Notes vanilla orchid, coastal breeze & white musk
Review This is definitely a tropical scent. I smell mango I think, or maybe it's pineapple, with a slightly tart lemony, orange or satsuma note. But it's not a harsh tropical scent, due to the sweetness of the vanilla and a slight ambery perfume note. Fairly strong on cold sniff, so disappointed that throw was so weak when melted.
Scent 4
Throw 2
Sweet Tea
Notes icy tea, sweet sugar & lemon
Review I bought this one after I already did this review, so it wasn't included originally. It smells exactly like iced tea with a smidgeon of lemon. This scent lasted over 24 hours!
I also compared DD Sweet Tea with Colonial Candles Sweet Iced Tea. DD is stronger on the tea side, like sweet iced tea with lemon. CC is stronger on the lemon side, like sweet lemonade with a hint of tea. I can smell some of the background notes coming through with the CC version (mostly the peach and the honey), while the DD version is just sweet iced black tea with lemon and nothing else. The CC version smells like powdered iced tea, and the DD version smells more like fresh authentic strong iced tea. Although I like both scents, I think I like the DD a little bit more.
