Hobby Lobby's DD wax melts are getting very creative with their blends! They're fantastic scents and in general they throw quite well. With Walmart wax (ScentSationals and Better Homes & Gardens) being so popular, don't overlook DD wax melts at Hobby Lobby!

Elegant Pearl

Notes: Opulent florals & spice

This smells like mulled apple cider with a hint of a sour "brown leaves" note, and perhaps even a smidgen of pine. But there's also a hint of a sweet perfumey note in the background that tempers some of the sourness, although this is not a very sweet scent. It's an odd combination but I kind of like it.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Firewood & Saffron

Notes: Sweet florals & leather

This smells like raw wood, oud (a dark resinous tree sappy woodsy scent), and bergamot (which gives it a little bit of a cologney note, although it's not actually a cologne scent). I think there's also patchouli in this one, and possibly a smidgen of leather. And it's slightly sweeter than these types of woodsy patchouli scents, so maybe also a floral way in the background. Looking at the notes, I'm surprised I don't see patchouli. I love this scent! When melted, there's an odd note in there that makes it smell a little like old perfume, but not enough to be a deal breaker.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Floral Blossoms

Notes: Grapefruit, orange flower & musk

A beautiful scent that smells like orange blossom/neroli (one of my favorite scents), jasmine, and a little bit of musk that gives it a perfumey note. Looking at the notes, I don't smell grapefruit at all, although there is a hint of another note that I can't put my finger on that tempers the sweetness of the floral a tiny bit.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Italian Bergamot & Cashmere

Notes: Sweet citrus & Earl Grey tea

Because of the bergamot I expected this to just be a cologne scent, and it is, but there's also a strong patchouli note. I also smell rich amber, a hint of vanilla, and possibly a smidgen of tobacco. Fantastic scent! Looking at the notes, I don't smell citrus or tea at all.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Oud & Amber

Notes: Vanilla bean & cedar

If the scent name is Oud & Amber, why are the notes vanilla bean and cedar?? This smells like a richer, more full-bodied, intense, slightly smoky and cologney ScentSationals Vanilla Woods. The woodsy note is definitely oud (a deep resinous tree sappy raw wood scent which sounds awful, but it smells great, especially mixed with other notes). I also smell a bit of patchouli, bergamot which gives this a cologne note, and possibly amber which gives it a rich warmth. I don't smell vanilla, but I do detect a bit of cedar. Fantastic scent!

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Peony & Yuzu

Notes: Fresh blooms & tangerine

On cold sniff this smells like grapefruit, a bit of tropical fruit, and maybe a hint of sweet floral. There may also be a smidgen of lemon and light wood way in the background, and possibly a barely detectable hint of bergamot that gives this an ever so slight cologney note. But melted, it just smells like grapefruit and a light wood note, and no floral notes really; actually it's kind of bitter, not really sweet. It smells a little bit like Victoria's Secret Love Spell dupes to me (ScentSationals Magic Spell, Scentsy Lucky in Love, Tuscany Stressless), but with slightly different notes. Looking at the scent notes, if the scent name is Peony & Yuzu, why are the notes different from the scent? I don't smell tangerine or orange, but yuzu is a citrus scent that smells like a mix of bergamot, kumquat, bitter grapefruit, and lime. So there are the bergamot, grapefruit and lemon notes I detect on cold sniff. This scent is just "okay" to me, but not my favorite. But since it's similar to Love Spell dupes, I think most people will like it.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Rosewood Blooms

Notes: Rose petals, fig & vanilla

I love this scent! It smells like sweet old-fashioned rose scented soap mixed with red currant (a very slightly tart, fig-like soapy scent with a very slight berry note, although there is no berry note in this scent). Looking at the notes, I don't smell vanilla at all. Melted, it's a beautiful rose scent with a slight soapy note and a smidgen of a rich warm ambery note. It's not a perfumey rose, and it's not even overly sweet. This may be my favorite scent in this collection.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Sea Salt & Lotus

Notes: Ocean mist & exotic florals

This smells like orange blossom/neroli and cucumber. It's fresh and... odd, like the notes don't belong together. When melted, it's a beachy scent. The orange blossom gives it a Coppertone suntan oil note, but there's something a little bitter, metallic and chemical-like in the background that I don't care for. It's not enough to ruin the scent for me, but I think it would smell better without it. It's still a very nice scent.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Splash

Notes: Ocean breeze, lavender & amber

A pleasant fresh watery ocean type scent that smells a little bit like shower gel. I do detect a bit of the lavender, but it's subtle. It's a nice scent, but a bit bland.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 out of 5

Sweet Essence

Notes: Cotton candy, melon & musk

This smells like sweet cantaloupe, with maybe a hint of grapefruit and possibly a smidgen of a cotton candy note. It's not a pink sugar scent at all. Looking at the notes, I don't smell musk at all, as it's not a perfumey scent. Melted, it smells like sweet cantaloupe nectar, if there were such a thing. It's very sweet, but with a little sourness of the cantaloupe (but it's not watermelon). I don't hate it, but it's not one of my favorites.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Unicorn Dreams

Notes: Plum blossom & magnolia

A lovely jasmine type scent with a tiny bit of a soapy note and a hint of something else I can't put my finger on, apple I think. I don't smell plum, or really any fruit notes, but I think a smidgen of apple may be way in the background.

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Aromatherapy Collection

I'm not sure why this is called the aromatherapy collection. I don't believe these are made with essential oils, but it's okay because, like most of their scents, they smell great.

Calm (No. 06)

Description: Calm your soul with this soothing blend of sandalwood & smoky vanilla with hints of earthy amber & patchouli mist

Notes: Sandalwood & Incense

This is a strong men's cologne scent but there's also a harshness in the background that smells a little like rubbing alcohol and something else I can't figure out, like a weird chemical note. Looking at the notes, I guess I do detect a hint of wood, but "incense" doesn't tell me much. The candle has a more detailed description which the wax melt does not, and the additional notes are vanilla, amber and patchouli. When melted, that harshness is still there and makes it smell like really old perfume. It's a bit headache inducing (the opposite of a scent called "Calm"!)

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Cleanse (No. 3)

Description: Cleanse your spirits with this invigorating blend of eucalyptus and lemongrass, complemented with orange zest and a hint of lavender & vanilla.

Notes: Lemongrass & Tangelo

A great, energizing lemongrass scent. It doesn't have that soapy note that plain lemongrass tends to have. Tangelo is a cross between a grapefruit and tangerine and supposedly has a light floral note; I think I do detect a smidgen of grapefruit, but no floral although it's a little sweeter than plain lemongrass. Very nice! After about 3 hours, it started to lost the sweetness and took on a slightly salty, burnt note; still nice, but smelled better earlier on.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Fresh (No. 05)

Description: Refresh your senses with this invigorating blend of zesty grapefruit and juicy guava contrasted with sweet blooming rose & peony.

Notes: Rose & grapefruit

This is a red currant scent. Red currant is a very slightly tart, fig-like soapy scent with a very slight berry note and only a smidgen of sweetness. It's a very sophisticated note that, when mixed, makes other scents smell classy. I also smell the grapefruit, but I don't smell rose at all. It's quite possible the combination of rose and grapefruit is what makes it smell like red currant, so it might not be currant at all. But either way, it's a nice unusual scent. It's very similar to Goose Creek Candle's Orange Berry Slush, and also smells a bit like Better Homes & Gardens Red Wood Pomegranate from 2014.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Relax (No. 04)

Description: Relax with this calming blend of mandarin citrus and wild mint layered with subtle creamy notes of cedarwood and vanilla.

Notes: Mandarin & Mint

This smells like lemongrass, with that slightly soapy note, but it's also quite sweet (lemongrass is not sweet), and the sweetness smells a little like melon I think. But I'm also getting a nasal clearing effect so there's also mint in this one although it doesn't actually smell minty. And maybe a smidgen of orange? When melted, the lemongrass note is more subtle and it smells like sweet melon candy with a little lemon and orange, and I don't smell the mint at all. Looking at the notes, okay mandarin is orange, and I'm surprised I don't see melon or lemon. It seems like melon is a note in some of the scents in this new collection. This is a very unique scent, and I really like it!

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Uplift (No. 02)

Description: Retreat into a fresh and renewing aroma of crisp lemon and succulent bergamot followed by the scent of watery jasmine and white lily blossoms

Notes: Bergamot & Lemon Peel

I smell sweet orange blossom/neroli with a citrusy note, orange maybe. And bergamot I think, which gives it a little bit of a fresh slightly soapy cologney note, although it's not a cologne scent. Looking at the scent notes, the lemon is very subtle, smells more like a smidgen of orange to me. When melted, I just smell orange blossom with a little bit of a soapy note. It's pleasant and not overly sweet.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

I didn't find No. 01 or No. 07 in the aromatherapy melts collection. I called several Hobby Lobby stores, and as of October 2018 none of them have any products in 01, no information on it like the name of the scent, no space in their display for it, and no plans to order it. However, No. 07 (Tranquil - Ginger Root & Ylang Flower) was available in candles and air fresheners in one of the stores, but no wax melts. There is also a No. 08 - (Rejuvenate - Verbena & Eucalyptus), which I only saw in the room spray. And No. 10 (Soothe - Lavender & Oakwood); I did review the wax melt in this scent last year.

If I find any of these additional scents, I'll add them to this review.

Flourish

Notes: Tulips, rich blond wood and musk

This smells like an expensive women's perfume with a hint of warm amber and a little bit of a gardenia note. Very nice!

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Iridescence

Notes: Warm vanilla bean and white musk

This is a pink sugar type scent (a sweet sugary perfumey scent with hints of raspberry), but it's more rich and warm, with an ambery almost slightly smoky note, not as perfumey, and only a barely detectable smidgen of raspberry (not as much as in most pink sugar scents).

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Lavish Velvet

Notes: Bergamot, orange blossom and soft Tonka

This one is really hard to describe. I smell notes of apple, wood, floral, cologne, pine, berry, vanilla, and even a hint of marshmallow, but not necessarily in that order, and all the notes are very subtle, with not one note standing out above the others. It's a very complex scent. I like it though. After a few hours it took on a bit more of the apple blossom vanilla marshmallow note, and I don't smell as much of the wood, pine and cologne notes (not that they were strong to begin with).

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Madagascar Vanilla & Cedar

Notes: Madagascar vanilla and cedar woods

A nice strong cedar scent with a sweet very slightly perfumey note (although this is not a perfume scent), and maybe a hint of patchouli. It also has a note that's not really sour, but more "pungent", that I don't care for. I just realized that this is an almost exact dupe of AmbiEscents Sophisticated Spice.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 out of 5

Persian Citron

Notes: Bright tangerine balanced with white musk

This reminds me a little of Yankee Honey Clementine. It smells like strong tea with a lot of honey, a little bit of a fruity almost candy-like orangey note, and maybe a smidgen of lemon. But it's not a citrusy scent. I don't smell musk or any perfumey notes at all, although it's a little sweet but also very rich. It's a difficult scent to describe. I don't care for it on cold sniff, but I like it when melted.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5

Pomegranate Sorbet

Notes: Pomegranate, loganberries, cassis, satinwood and cranberry

A rich dark berry scent. It's just a little sweet. I smell the tanginess of the cranberry, and a hint of zestiness like a smidgen of lemon that gives it a tiny bit of a tropical note.

Throw: Medium, 3 out of 5

Summer Breeze & Linen

Notes: Clean linen & sunshine

This is actually an older scent but I never bought it because I didn't like it on cold sniff, and I don't care for it when melted either. It's a fresh scent with maybe a bit of an herbal note, and possibly a smidgen of lemon. It's not sweet at all, actually kind of bitter, and has a little bit of an industrial cleaner note. It doesn't smell like linen or laundry at all. However, after about an hour that "industrial" note dissipated and it started to smell like green grass, so I kind of liked it after that!

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Tanzanite

Notes: Crisp morning air and citron berry

This is very weak on cold sniff, but it smells like a fresh air, watery scent with a hint of a berry note and maybe a barely detectable smidgen of orange. Melted, however, it's kind of a perfumey vanilla scent with a hint of berry.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 to 3 out of 5

Tonka & Oud

Notes: Soft cashmere and bergamot

The warm, sweet, velvety cashmere is the main note, but I also smell a little bit of a rich cologne note (the bergamot) and even a hint of baby powder. Oud is a damp intense woodsy scent with tree sap and cedar notes, and I think I do smell as well, but it's subtle. I really like this scent.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Velvet Tonka Bean

Notes: Warm tonka bean, spices and musk

This is definitely a winter scent! I smell a strong combination of cedar and pine, with a little bit of a raw woodsy note, and a smidgen of bergamot or warm amber or even a barely detectable cologne note, although it's definitely not a cologne scent. It has the crispness of pine and a little bit of the warmth of amber. I adore this scent and it's crazy strong on cold sniff.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Vanilla Orchid

Notes: Warm notes of tonka bean and hothouse flowers

This scent is not available in a melt, so I bought a small 4 oz. candle to chunk. It's a super warm rich vanilla scent with an amber note, and so warm it almost has a smokiness to it. I think there's also a sweet buttercream note, although it's not really a foodie scent because it also smells perfumey, but not really floral, and might have a hint of sweet tobacco in it. It's a completely different scent from Iridescence. Actually, I decided not to melt this one. I like the scent, but not enough to deal with hassle of chunking it up.

DD (Hobby Lobby) Wax Melts Reviews

DD (Hobby Lobby) Wax Melts Reviews

Video

DD (Darsee & David) candles and wax melts are made exclusively for Hobby Lobby. They come out with a handful of new scents a few times a year. Most of the scents in this review are brand new, within the past few months. I enjoy the DD (Hobby Lobby) scented wax melts, and I especially like that they show the scent notes right on the label.

Amber Petals

Notes: Frosted citron, amber, cedarwood and neroli

This smells like warm, rich musky old-fashioned honeysuckle perfume. DD also has (or used to have) a scent called Honeysuckle Bouquet, which was different from this scent (more soapy and not as sweet and rich, like honeysuckle scented soap). Looking at the scent notes, I do detect the neroli in the background, which is a scent I love. And the amber of course adds the warmth. I don't smell cedar, and I definitely don't smell citrus. I'm surprised I don't see honeysuckle or musk in the notes. I really like this scent.

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Apple Spiced Cider

Notes: Cinnamon, red apple & clove

A typical fall cinnamon apple scent. This one smells a bit better than other similar scents I've smelled. It's more authentic and doesn't have that waxy note that some cinnamon apple scents have.

Throw: Mild, 3 out of 5

Christmas Tree

Notes: Pine needles, fir balsam & wintergreen

A fantastic blue spruce scent with a woodsy note. It's not a biting pine scent or a smoky scent, and it's different and more authentic than most of the pine type scents I've smelled, with that aldehyde type of note that I love in Colonial Candle's Blue Spruce scent. Looking at the scent notes, wintergreen has an anise note, but I don't smell anything like that in this scent, or any minty notes either.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5

Exotic Oasis

Notes: Blooming clematis, magnolia, ebony wood and poppies

I love this scent! It's a super sweet floral perfumey scent with a berry note and maybe a hint of marshmallow, a bit like pink sugar. Very girly! Looking at the scent notes, I'm surprised I don't see any fruit since I do smell a little bit of fruit, maybe raspberry or plum.

Throw: Mild, 2.5 to 3 out of 5

Gardenia Blossoms

Notes: Gardenia, jasmine & lilac

This smells like real gardenia. It's not overly sweet or perfumey. It has a little bit of a hothouse or greenhouse floral note. Looking at the scent notes, I do smell the lilac too. It's a nice scent.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Gourmet Taffy

Notes: Buttery salt water taffy at its best

This scent wasn't available when I did this review; hence no picture (I added this review on 12/29/17). It's a sweet candyish scent, but different from the Jelly Bean scent in that it's also rich and buttery. I can't tell what kind of fruit it is; it smells a little like pineapple. And the wax is yellow. It's not overly fruity, but more like a sweet buttery candy scent with a slight fruit note. It's a nice scent, but it only lasted about an hour and a half!

Throw: Medium, 3.5 out of 5

Grammie's Toffee

Notes: Butter, caramel & vanilla

It's caramel. A nice scent, but just a typical caramel scent. It's slightly salty but not really a salted caramel scent.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Grapefruit & Cinnamon

Notes: Bright citrus & spice

It's an odd combination, but it works. This smells like a tropical berry. I smell the slight bitterness of the grapefruit, although I don't detect grapefruit per se. And I detect a little of the cinnamon, but it smells more like it's just part of the berry scent. It's sweet too, but not overly sweet. I like it. It smells a lot like an old ScentSationals scent called Fiesta (different from Tropical Fiesta). I'm surprised I don't see berries in the notes.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Jelly Bean

Notes: Fruity melange of strawberry, pineapple, banana, grape and orange

This is a fruity candy scent, but I can't figure out what fruit. I think I smell grape, but maybe also a little bit of strawberry and even banana. Looking at the scent notes, they're spot on. I don't smell pineapple or orange though. Although it's a sweet scent, it's slightly less sweet than what I would expect from a jelly bean scent. Actually, it smells more like fruity gumdrops or gummy bears or something like that. It smells a bit like ScentSationals Rock Candy but with slightly different notes, and a little less sweet.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Lavender & Oakwood

Notes: Soft medley of rosewood oak and blond woods wrapped with fresh lavender

This is a medicinal but fresh lavender scent with a eucalyptus note and a hint of light milky sandalwood. It's not a sweet scent, but it does have just a smidgen of sweetness. I like it; it's different.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

Sunflower Meadow

Notes: Summer sunflowers in full bloom

This smells like jasmine with maybe a hint of neroli. It's not a warm, rich, musky honeysuckle scent like Amber Petals, and it's different from their old Honeysuckle Bouquet scent. It also has a little bitterness that makes it more authentic and not as perfumey. I don't normally like that bitter note, but it's subtle and doesn't detract from the scent. I like this one.

Throw: Bold, 5 out of 5, a scent monster that took over the house

Tangerine & White Musk

Notes: Fresh citrus burst of grapefruit and tangerine with lavender and white musk

This is an orange scent with some notes in the background that I don't like. I don't smell musk or anything perfumey at all. It's like orange mixed with peach and something a little bitter or sour, but not sour in a good way like satsuma. Looking at the scent notes, the bitterness is the grapefruit. And I don't smell lavender at all. Actually now that I know it's in there, maybe I do detect it a little, but it doesn't work well at all with the bitterness of the grapefruit.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Warm Cookies

Notes: Sweet milk, creamy butter & vanilla

Super rich vanilla cookies with maybe a hint of brown sugar and smidgen of marshmallow. It's a sweet scent, but not overly sweet, and it's even a little salty, like the butter that makes it rich. It's different from other vanilla cookie scents I've smelled, and I thought I detected a smidgen of chocolate, although it's not in the scent notes.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5

Water Lily & Bergamot

Notes: Clean water lily and bergamot

A nice green slightly zesty scent with a hint of a cologne note and perhaps a smidgen of a floral undertone. It's similar to White Sage & Eucalyptus, but that scent is more peppery and this one is sweeter and with the cologne and slight floral note. I like this one more.

Throw: Strong, 3.5 to 4 out of 5

White Sage & Eucalyptus

Notes: Sage and eucalyptus intermingled with lime and aromatic black pepper

A zesty herbal scent with a slight peppery note and a smidgen of mint. I guess the mint is the eucalyptus. There's a slight savory note which I guess is the sage, but it's an herbal savory note. Looking at the scent notes, I do detect the lime, which is the zestiness. It's more herbal than zesty. I like it. It's very similar to Water Lily & Bergamot, but this scent is more peppery and that scent is a little sweet and with a cologne note.

Throw: Strong, 4 out of 5

Wood Shop

Notes: Fresh cut wood, sweet leather and cologne

I love this scent! It's men's cologne with raw wood and mesquite (salty smoky woodsiness). It's not a real wood shop type scent, as that would have that raw pencil shavings type wood note. And it's not a smoky campfire type scent. It's like a combination of men's cologne and ScentSationals Smoked Birch (or AmbiEscents Aspen Birch, same scent). Looking at the notes, I don't smell leather although it could be way in the background.

Throw: Medium, 3 to 3.5 out of 5
