Yankee American Home Wax Melts from Walmart – Spring 2017 Review – New Scents & Packaging

Yankee American Home Wax Melts from Walmart – Spring 2017 Review – New Scents & Packaging

Yankee American Home Wax Melts from Walmart – Spring 2017 Scents & Packaging

Watch video below:

The Yankee American Home fragranced wax melts now come in new oval shaped packaging which says "now with more fragrance" at the top. These came out around February 2017 and can be found at Walmart, as well as some CVS and BJ's Wholesale Clubs. They're the same amount of wax (2.6oz.) as the old rectangular packaging), and they now sell for $3.43 at Walmart. You can find more information and a store locator at the Yankee American Home website at http://www.ycamericanhome.com.

Yankee has definitely stepped up their game by adding more fragrance to these wax melts and dropping the price at Walmart (from $3.93 to $3.43). The addition of "more fragrance" has definitely made a difference, as most of the scents in the new packaging are throwing very well (those in the old packaging in general did not throw well). They're still quite a bit more expensive than the ScentSationals and Better Homes & Gardens brand wax melts, which sell for $2.00 at Walmart for the same amount of wax (2.5oz). The Yankee packaging looks bigger because it's more plastic, and the wax doesn't come to the top of the package. It's deceptive packaging to make the consumer think they're getting more wax. I think most of these scents are fantastic, although a bit on the generic side, which is okay. But ScentSationals and Better Homes & Gardens scents tend to be a bit more "complex". Plus there's something about supporting a smaller company like Rimports (which makes ScentSationals and Better Homes & Gardens wax melts) that's more satisfying than buying from a very large company like Yankee Candles.

I posted this question in the Scented Wax Melts Retail Facebook Group:
"What do you guys think of the Yankee American Homes melts from Walmart in the new oval shaped packaging, with the "now with more fragrance" written at the top of the package? Has anyone tried them? What do you think of the scent quality and throw? Better than the old ones in the rectangular pack, worse, or the same? If you haven't tried them, or won't buy them again, why not? And are you dissuaded by the $3.43 price tag (vs. SS and BHG which is $2.00)? Let's discuss!"
For the most part, people who have responded seem to like them, although some are dissuaded by the high price.

I added 4 more scents in the text reviews below that are not in the video. This is because I couldn't find these scents when I originally did the video in February. So Classic Denim, Clear Mountain Lake, Freedom's Flag, and Sunny Sands are not in the video above. But I did do individual videos for each other those scents below.

Above the Clouds

This is a fresh air, shampoo or body wash type scent, maybe more of a men's body wash. It's nice a refreshing scent, but a bit generic in that there are lots of similar scents out there by other companies.

Throw: Quite good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.

Video: https://youtu.be/yPTpJi2LYZw

Buttercream Frosting

Description from Yankee American Home website:  "The thick white frosting you swirl and smooth across a cake — rich with vanilla and fortified with creamy butter."

This smells more like yellow vanilla cake than buttercream frosting. It's not as sweet and rich as buttercream. It's a nice bakery vanilla scent, pretty standard.

Throw: Very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5, which is great for a vanilla scent as they typically are not strong throwers. I also reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016, when it came in the older rectangular package. At that time, I said the throw was "okay", around a 2.5 or 3 out of 5. So it looks like the throw has improved with the addition of "more fragrance".

Catch a Wave

Description from Yankee American Home website: "An inviting scent of salt air that will make you want to wiggle your toes in the sand."

This smells like Coppertone suntan oil mixed with a fresh oceany note. It's not a dupe of the regular Yankee Sun & Sand and Yankee Sandcastle, which is a more perfumey suntan oil scent without the fresh note. Very nice scent!

Throw: Good, around a 3 out of 5.

Video: https://youtu.be/Sx7YTMWUus4

Classic Denim

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A clean scent of blue jeans fresh from the laundry and hung up to dry in the sun. Background notes of violet and orange add a brightness to the clean fabric."

A nice sweet floral fabric softener dryer sheet scent. Looking at the scent notes, I think I do detect a smidgeon of orange but it's not a citrusy orange, more like a neroli type orange blossom note. I forgot how nice this scent is! Melted, it's a super fresh sweet watery scent with a smidgeon of lemon for extra freshness, and that slight orange blossom note that gives it a little bit of warmth, and a little bit of floral and a slight laundry note. But this is not really a true laundry scent. It's fantastic!

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016 (when it was available in the older rectangular package), throw was very good, 3 or 3.5 out of 5.

Clear Mountain Lake

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A cool scent of lavender with a touch of sage and sandalwood that brings the crisp air of the high mountains home."

This smells like a soapy men's body wash but also has a subtle floral note. Looking at the scent notes, I think I do smell a smidgeon of lavender. Melted, it's a nice fresh air bodywash type scent with a hint of lavender, but it smells like a lot of other fresh body wash type scents I have.

Throw: Good, 3 out of 5.

Video: https://youtu.be/Snyxa-dsysg

Cozy Corner

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Curl up with the fragrance of soft pillows and casual throws on a comforting afternoon."

This is a pleasant warm cashmere fabric softener type scent with a very sweet gardenia or jasmine type floral note. Scent on cold sniff is weak.

Throw: Poor, around a 1.5 out of 5, if that. But it might do well in a tiny bathroom.

Video: https://youtu.be/KhMYUBjeYHM

Creamy Vanilla Coconut

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Rich and buttery vanilla bean sweetened with the gentle white flavor of coconut."

This is a fantastic rich super sweet buttery vanilla buttercream scent. I can't really smell coconut in this, or if it's there, it's very faint. So even if you don't like coconut scents, you'll love this one if you like sweet confectionary scents.

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/u6IyG9oLQgM

Exotic Jasmine

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The fragrance of blooming jasmine tamed with tropical citrus into a delicate, relaxing and subtly sweet scent."

This is a lovely authentic jasmine flower scent. It kind of has that "hothouse" flower note that makes it smell realistic, and although it's sweet, it's not overly perfumey, although it has a very slight soapy "bubble bath" note which is nice. I don't smell any citrus or tropical notes at all, as mentioned in the scent description. Scent on cold sniff is quite weak.

Throw: Very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/fica3F8e89k

Fragrant Spring Meadow

Description from Yankee American Home website: A bright floral perfume scent with an oriental perfume spice note. It's not an authentic flower scent, and it's not overly sweet or girly. It's a "comfy" floral scent, perfect for the bedroom or even the bathroom. Very nice scent.

Throw: Excellent, around a 3.5 or 4 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/nAUx1DfMB40

Freedom's Flag

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A rush of fresh air rippling with driftwood, citrus and musk creates a scent as bright as a flag against a clear blue sky."

I smell a sweet buttercream vanilla mixed with a floral and maybe a slight fresh air note. Looking at the notes, yes I can see the musk, but I don’t smell driftwood or citrus at all. It's a very nice scent.

Throw: Fair to good, 2.5 to 3 out of 5. So would be better for a smaller room.

Video: https://youtu.be/1zgPzzO63MQ

Fresh Apple

Description from Yankee American Home website: "It's that very first slice from a crisp red apple, moist and sweet and so fresh it has a little sharpness. Refreshing!"

This is a plain apple scent without any spices or cinnamon. It's not overly sweet, and it's quite authentic although it has a very slight waxy note. It's not very strong on cold sniff, which is unusual for apple scents because they are usually quite strong.  It's a nice apple scent, but you can get apple scents in other brands which are cheaper and stronger.

Throw: Good, around a 3 out of 5, which is also unusual for an apple scent as they usually have excellent throw.

Video: https://youtu.be/irEufp83_Sg

Fresh Citrus

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A blend of sweet orange and tart citrus that refreshes gently."

On cold sniff I smell orange and a bitter grapefruit type scent, with a creamy background, but there's something "off" about the scent, like a fake waxy note. No wait, it smells like pineapple! That's the note that doesn't make sense. It's like pineapple with a bitter grapefruit note. I don't even smell the orange when it's melted. I'm not a fan of pineapple scents in general, but this is a fake chemical pineapple scent with a bitter note, and I don't like it.

Throw: Excellent, at least 4 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/5bX8MAwiL_I

Fruit-Tini

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A refreshing mix of fresh citrus with a dash of red cherry that puts a sweet face on the hottest summer day."

On cold sniff, this smells like cherry flavored Hawaiian Punch. It's a sweet fake cherry scent (but in a good way), with a bit of tartness from the citrus. A happy summer scent! Melted, it takes on a bit of a cherry-scented lipstick or makeup type note, which is actually okay because it's a really nice scent.

Throw: Scent monster that took over the entire house, 4.5 or 5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/HwjDM3mhklo

Island Mango Coconut

Description from Yankee American Home website: "An island fruit cocktail of tangy oranges and pineapple, sweet mango and peaches, and soft white coconut — just add a warm ocean breeze and a colorful umbrella."

This just smells like peach to me, the sweet juicy insides of the peach or peach nectar, but not cloyingly sweet. I don't smell orange or pineapple, and no coconut at all. Maybe on cold sniff a smidgeon of pineapple, but if I didn't know it was in the scent notes, I wouldn't detect it. The juicy nectar notes might actually be the mango.

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/oXPZxn6zcc4

Lemon Cupcake

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Lemon cupcakes fresh from the oven, topped with rich vanilla frosting and a sprinkle of zest."

This is a perfect lemon scent. It's not a kitchen lemon or a lemonade lemon. It's a rich, slightly salty lemon with a smidgeon of a bakery note.

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5, but sadly the scent started dissipating in a little over an hour, and within 2 hours it was gone!

Video: https://youtu.be/w00RWZ0kJkg

Lovely Lavender

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A field of purple lavender in full bloom with bright sun. There's a gentle breeze bringing sandalwood and sweet powdery vanilla across the afternoon to make it just perfect."

This is a nice lavender scent, not overly sweet, and not medicinal. It's a "clean" lavender, not really authentic, but almost like a lavender scented soap. I don't smell sandalwood or vanilla, although now that I know sandalwood is in the notes I think I detect a woodsy note on cold sniff, but not when melted.

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016 (when it was available in the older rectangular package), throw was not good, around a 2.5 out of 5. So the "more fragrance" that has been added has definitely made a difference.

Video: https://youtu.be/NyMNpZhIxfs

Marshmallow Vanilla Squares

This one is a bit weak on cold sniff. I do smell marshmallow, but it smells fake. Thankfully, it smells much better melted than it does on cold sniff. It really smells like sweet marshmallows!

Throw: Good to very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/t4bh77s0DCk

Moonlit Night

Description from Yankee American Home website: "There's a peaceful stillness to this fragrance that comes from a mix of cedar, oak moss, clove and more. It's calm and quiet, crisp but relaxing."

This is the same scent as the regular Yankee scent "Midsummer's Night" (whose scent description from the Yankee website is "masculine blend of musk, patchouli, sage and mahogany cologne", and notes are: citrus, herbaceous, woody, bergamot, lime, lavender, pine, floral, cedarwood, vetiver, juniper berry, clary sage, moss).  I've loved this scent for a long time. It's a nice men's cologne scent that smells a bit like Drakkar cologne but not as sweet. I do smell the cedar, and there's a soapy note that makes it smells like men's body wash. I don't smell cloves, and I'm not sure what oakmoss is.

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent on December 14, 2015, throw was also excellent, but 4.5 out of 5, so the old one had slightly better throw.

Video: https://youtu.be/Okd0ZZI5bq8

Paradise Found

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The clean scent of island florals blooming in the tropical sun makes any room a vacation destination."

This is a lovely floral scent with maybe a smidgeon of laundry, and some other note that I can't figure out, but gives this scent almost a smoky richness. It's a bit weak on cold sniff.

Throw: Fair to good, around a 2.5 or 3 out of 5, so would be better for a smaller room.

Video: https://youtu.be/xedQ0IeJAig

Perfect Margarita

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A wedge of lime, salt along the rim and that unforgettable vacation scent of a perfect margarita."

This is the same scent as the regular Yankee scent "Margarita Time" (notes are lime, citron, lemon, ginger, peach blossom, tropical fruit, and musk). It's a very nice fresh sweet creamy lime scent. It's not a harsh "industrial cleaner" type lime, and it might have a hint of vanilla in it to give it that creamy note.

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016, I said the throw was "very good, around a 3.5 out of 5."

Video: https://youtu.be/Bqy41kMuEWQ

Pink Island Sunset

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Tropical fruits and citrus will have you thinking of gentle trade winds and full, pink sunsets stretching the horizon."

This is the same scent as the regular Yankee scent "Pink Sands" (whose scent description on the Yankee website is "mix of bright citrus, sweet florals and spicy vanilla", and scent notes are citrus, melon, berry, osmanthus, spicy vanilla, musk, and woody notes). It smells like coconut with a slight fruity note and smidgeon of floral and maybe a tiny smidgeon of vanilla, kind of like a fresh coconutty shampoo or body wash. It's not overly sweet, and I don’t smell citrus. Very nice and relaxing.

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5, although scent started to dissipate around 3 hours. When I reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016, I said the throw was "Around a 3 out of 5 but the scent disappeared within 3 hours".

Video: https://youtu.be/T1JoRI9-3bk

Red Berry & Lime

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Sweet red raspberries, juicy and fresh, meet tart lime in a refreshing combination."

I smell raspberries with a tart note, but the combination smells more like cherries than raspberries. It smells more like candy than authentic fruit, which is okay because it's a fantastic, fun happy scent.

Throw: Not good, maybe a 2.5 out of 5, which is a shame because it's such a nice scent, although it would probably do well in a very small room.

Video: https://youtu.be/5CcXkQM37ao

Spiced Apple Berries

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Crisp apple sweetened with fresh berries and cinnamon, spiced with a dash of clove."

This is a sweet cinnamon apple scent with a hint of red berries (the label shows an apple, cinnamon sticks, and a strawberry and blackberry). It's a nice fall apple berry scent, and the cinnamon is subtle.

Throw: Good, around a 3 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/reObcpY3rHg

Sunlit Leaves

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The fresh, outdoor scent of a lazy afternoon lying beneath the trees and staring at the sunlit leaves above."

I'm not sure what I'm smelling, maybe a fresh air herbal slightly sandalwoody very slightly lemony scent with a hint of sweetness? It's a nice scent, but kind of "non-descript", and I can't figure out the notes.

Throw: Good, around a 3 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/VS22PEhhcUI

Sunny Sands

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A bright, fresh scent that mixes citrus and fruit with floral to lift your spirits like a sunny day at your favorite beach."

By the name I assumed this would be a dupe of Yankee's regular scent called Sun & Sand, but it's not. It smells like a combination of that scent, with the suntan oil notes. But there's also a slightly sour fruit note. There may also be a smidgeon of a floral note. Looking at the scent notes, I don't smell citrus.

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 out of 5, and scent lasted much longer than the older version. When I reviewed this scent on February 23, 2016 (when it was available in the older rectangular package), throw was good, around a 3 out of 5, but the scent fizzled within 2 hours.

Video: https://youtu.be/ZsZ5fRtyVXc

Sweet & Salty Caramel

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The buttery, rich scent of soft caramel mixed with butterscotch and topped with just a few crystals of sea salt. Delicious!"

I believe this is the same as Yankee's regular "Salted Caramel", whose description from the Yankee website is "Burnt sugar, sea salt, and smooth vanilla caramel" (and notes of dark plum, date, mandarin, burnt sugar, almond blossom, pistachio, sea salt, brown butter, caramel, vanilla bean, balsam, and dark chocolate). This smells so delicious! It's a sweet rich buttery caramel scent, like the sweet insides of a creamy chocolate butterscotch candy; in fact, I swear there's a hint of rich chocolate in there. It's not overly salty.

Throw: Fantastic, a "scent monster" that took over the house, 5 out of 5. When I reviewed this scent in the older rectangular packaging (before they added "more fragrance") on December 14, 2015, I said the throw was only "good", a 3 out of 5.

Video: https://youtu.be/fxgUlqsLxIQ

Sweet Lilac

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The unmistakable scent of lilac in bloom — with hot sun on green bushy leaves and a note of rose in the mix."

I believe this is the same scent as Yankee's regular "Lilac Blossoms" (with notes of dewy greens, hyacinth, water lily, bergamot, lilac petals, tulip bulbs, cedarleaf, vetiver, and moss). This is a lovely authentic lilac scent. On cold sniff there's a sweet slightly perfumey note in the background, but I don't smell that when melted, just an authentic lilac without anything added.

Throw: Excellent, 3.5 or 4 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/N8L3563R5zA

Sweet Peach

Description from Yankee American Home website: "The juicy fragrance of fresh peaches sprinkled with sugar and waiting to be tasted."

I melted this scent after the Island Mango Coconut scent (which smells just like peach) to see the difference. This scent smells more like the fuzzy outside of the peach than the juicy inside or nectar. It's more of a peaches and cream type scent, and it has a little bit of that "fake peach" note that smells like peach scented room spray. The Island Mango Coconut scent is more of a bright, juicy, authentic peach scent, which may be because of the mango note.

Throw: Very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/GZVWd3Vs6_0

Time for Tea

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Clean, fresh and inviting—enjoy the comfort of fresh green tea."

This is a nice tea scent with a strong lemon note. It doesn't smell like authentic green tea, more like iced tea powder, but it's still very nice. It's not overly sweet, and it kind of smells more like a relaxing spa scent than a foodie scent.

Throw: Excellent, at least 4 out of 5, maybe 5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/wC-nrA52HhQ

Tropical Sky

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Island air at seaside—clean and tinged with sea salt, tropical blooms and tall palms nearby."

This is a fresh air salty water type scent that has almost a slight bitter note in the background. There may be a smidgeon of a tropical note, but barely noticeable. It's not overly sweet, but I feel like it should be. It's not a bad scent, but I don't really care for it.

Throw: Very good, around a 3.5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/TcSzyKuHvKg

Warm & Happy Home

Description from Yankee American Home website: "Cinnamon and cloves are paired to give every room that feeling of warmth and coziness. It's a fragrance you'll want to return to again and again."

This "might" be the same fragrance as the regular Yankee "Home Sweet Home" (whose description from the Yankee website is "cinnamon, baking spices, and a hint of freshly poured tea", and notes of apple, cinnamon spice, nutmeg, juniper berry, coumarin, and musk). This smells like straight cinnamon with sugar. It's a bit of a "Big Red Gum" type cinnamon with a slight note of cloves, or cinnamon candy. When melted it smells a little better because of the sugar and the cloves. But I'm not a fan of cinnamon scents unless it's a bakery cinnamon, and I'm into spring scents right now!

Throw: Very good, 3.5 out of 5.

Video: https://youtu.be/gNyhIHHkVKY

Wild Blue Indigo

Description from Yankee American Home website: "A sunlit field in bloom with bright wild indigo."

I don't know what indigo smells like, but this is a fruity floral that smells like creamy strawberries mixed with a floral. It smells a little bit like fruit scented lipstick or makeup, but in a good way, probably from the perfumey note of the floral.

Throw: Excellent, at least 4 out of 5, maybe 5 out of 5

Video: https://youtu.be/UIJ4l8CJMiU

Hanna's Candles (CandleMart) Scented Wax Melts Review

Hanna's Candles (CandleMart) Scented Wax Melts Review
Hanna's Candles (CandleMart) Scented Wax Melts

This is another review of Hanna's Candles scented wax melts. You can order these from the Hanna's Candles website at https://candlemart.com/collections/all/no-wick. Please also see my last review of more Hanna's scents at http://www.scentedwaxreviews.com/2016/12/hannas-candles-scented-wax-melts-review.html.

Watch video below:

Hanna's at Home Trios – Cool Winds / Cotton Seed and Freesia / Fresh Cotton
Cool Winds – A nice fresh fabric softener scent. Throw is excellent, around a 3.5 or 4 out of 5.
Cotton Seed and Freesia – Coconut with a laundry note and smidgeon of floral. Throw is very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.
Fresh Cotton – This smells more like a fresh salty ocean scent than laundry. It's an okay scent, but I like the other two better. Throw is good, around a 3 out of 5.

Hanna's at Home Trios – Chocolate Infatuation – Vanilla Truffle / Milk Chocolate / Chocolate Biscotti
Vanilla Truffle – A rich sweet marshmallowy vanilla buttercream. Throw is very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5. Unfortunately the scent started dissipating within 2 hours.
Milk Chocolate – This really does smell like milk chocolate, a light milky chocolate scent like a milk chocolate candy bar. Throw is very good, around a 3.5 out of 5.
Chocolate Biscotti – This smells like rich hot chocolate, but I don't smell any bakery notes. Throw is only fair, around a 2.5 out of 5.

Hanna's at Home Trios – Candy Crush – Nilla Vanilla / Berry Licious / Cherry Crush
Nilla Vanilla – On cold sniff it smells like vanilla buttercream with a cherry note, but it also has a weird plasticy chemical note. When melted though, it just smells like vanilla buttercream, no cherry (the cherry note was probably absorbed from the cherry scent in the package) or chemical notes. However, I could barely smell it, even up close, and throw was maybe a 1 or possibly 1.5 out of 5.

Berry Licious – A nice sweet cherry vanilla scent. It's a "happy" scent! Throw is fair to good, around a 2.5 or possibly 3 out of 5, but unfortunately scent started dissipating within an hour or two.

Cherry Crush – This smells like rich cherry flavored cough syrup cherry. It's not an authentic cherry scent, smells quite artificial but I like it. Throw is excellent, 3.5 or maybe 4 out of 5.  After about an hour, it started getting a bit annoying with more of a chemical note; I think mixing it with a bit of a vanilla would help.

Hanna's at Home Trios – Peppermint / Mint Leaves / Candy Cane
Peppermint – A slightly sweet peppermint scent. All 3 scents in this trio smell almost exactly the same. Throw is not very good, around a 2 or maybe a 2.5 out of 5.

Mint Leaves – On cold sniff this one is a bit weak. I smell mint with a slightly woodsy note. But when melted I don't smell the woodsy note, but I do smell a little bit of a sweet vanilla and a smidgeon of cookie. Throw is fair, around a 2.5 out of 5.

Candy Cane – A sweet vanilla mint scent. This one is a little sweeter than the other two scents. Throw is fair, around a 2.5 out of 5.

Hanna's at Home PureFresh Bathroom Neutralizing Mountain Air
Notes: A crisp fresh blend of ozone, herbs, florals and musk
On cold sniff this smells like a nice smelling bar of soap. Melted, it's definitely a laundry scent, but a nice soapy laundry scent, not a harsh detergent scent but also not a flowery fabric softener scent. Throw is excellent, around 3.5 out of 5.

Hanna's at Home PureFresh Pet Neutralizing Sunshine Fresh
Notes: The harmonious fusion of florals, green apples, ozone, and musk
This is exactly the same scent as ScentSationals Paws-itively Tropical, which is actually an apple scent with another note that I can't put my finger on, but it's very nice. Looking at the scent notes, that other note I can't figure out is "ozone", which gives it a fresh almost oceany vibe. And the Paws-itively Tropical scent is also a Pure Air Odor Eliminating Technology scent. Hanna's Candles and ScentSationals are two different companies, but it looks like some of their scents may be coming from the same place. Hanna's PureFresh Kitchen Neutralizing Sparkling Herbs scent (which I reviewed HERE) is the same scent as ScentSationals Sparkling Herbs. Throw is excellent, 4 out of 5.

TimberWick Lavender Sachet
Notes: Lavender, wild thyme, sage, warm musk, and earthy woods
A lovely soapy lavender scent. This is not a harsh medicinal lavender. It's more on the sweet side, but not overly sweet, and has a very slight warm ambery note (from the musk). It's a perfect lavender scent, and great for a bedroom or baby's room. Throw is excellent, around a 3.5 or 4 out of 5.

TimberWick Pine Meadow
Notes: Crushed pine needles with fresh cedar and blue spruce bark
This is more of a spruce scent than a pine scent. Pine scents can be a little biting and sometimes smell artificial, but spruce scents are more crisp and subtle. Blue spruce specifically is fantastic, a fresh, crisp woodsy balsam scent, which is mostly what I smell here. It's not a biting pine scent, and I don't smell cedar. Throw is very good, around a 3.5 out of 5.

ScentSationals Spring 2017 Scented Wax Melts Review

ScentSationals Spring 2017 Scented Wax Melts Review

ScentSationals Spring 2017 Scented Wax Melts
Click photo to view larger image

Watch video below:

These new ScentSationals Spring 2017 scented wax melts can be found at your local Walmart. If your Walmart still has not received them, check back in a week or two. All the Walmarts should have these new scents by the end of February 2017. All of these had excellent throw, or at least very good!

The throw score is how far the scent throws when melted. I measure throw on a scale of 0 to 5:
0 = no throw at all, even from up close
1 = barely any throw (can only smell it from a few feet away, best for a tiny room like a small bathroom)
2 = light throw (can smell it in a very small room like a small bedroom)
3 = good throw (can smell it in a medium sized room, or a small room and a little outside the room)
4 = excellent throw (can smell it in a large room, or a medium sized room and even outside the room and maybe the entire floor)
5 = "scent monster" (can smell it throughout the entire house, and maybe even outside the house with windows open). Very few wax scents are 5's.

Apple Wood

Notes
Oud, warm woods and citrus resin infused with tart juicy apple and citrus zest. Wet moss and tobacco add a soothing finish.

Cold Sniff
Rich warm men's cologne or body wash type scent, and the combination of apple and wood smells like sweet pipe tobacco with an amber type warmth. Ah, looking at the scent notes, there's the tobacco! This is more of a fall or even winter scent than a spring scent.

Melted
This is a very nice scent! When melted, the apple note stands out the most, with a slightly earthy woodsy warm tobacco note in the background, and very little of the cologne note. Oh, but this is a chameleon scent! When I walked into the room about 2 hours later, I smelled mostly men's cologne, with an apple note. And then 4 hours later, I smelled more of a tobacco note.

Perfect for: the den of a log cabin on a chilly evening!

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5

Happy Home

Notes
A zesty splash of candied orange and sparkling lemon lime warmed with vanilla cookies baked with sweet sugar crystals and buttercream.

Cold Sniff
This is very similar to last year's Iced Lemon Sugar Cookies, but it's a richer scent. It's not as lemony, it's slightly less sweet, and the lemon has more of a salty note. It's not a "kitchen lemon" scent. I also smell a warm vanilla cookie note in the background. It's like a more comfy, "homey" version of Iced Lemon Sugar Cookies.

Melted
This smells like warm lemon cookies in the oven. It's fantastic! It's not really a sweet scent, so they would be like vanilla cookies with lemon but without any icing. And the scent lasted the entire day, at least 8 hours!

Perfect for: kitchen or living room

Throw: Very good, 3.5 out of 5

Hello Sunshine

Notes
Sugared orange, candied lime and sweet lemon join tropical mango and bright papaya over palm leaf

Cold Sniff
This smells like orange and grapefruit with a slight lemony note. It's definitely a sunny summer scent!

Melted
I smell mostly grapefruit, even though grapefruit is not one of the scent notes. I don't smell palm at all, but it may be the combination of the orange and the slightly bitter palm that smells like grapefruit. I think I detect a bit of lemon as well. Not sure about the papaya. This is a fresh summery scent, like sitting in the sun peeling a fresh juicy grapefruit. It's putting me in a good mood on this cold winter day!

Perfect for: anywhere, especially in the kitchen, or if you want a quick mental boost in the office

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5, and it lasted the entire day (at least 8 hours).

Island Melon Coconut

Notes
Fresh sweet honeydew melon and sweet vanilla cream

Cold Sniff
I smell honeydew melon and sweet watermelon candy with a coconut note. Thirst quenching and summery, and not overly sweet. Looking at the scent notes, I don't see watermelon although I do smell it but it's not very strong. Even if you don't care for watermelon scents (I don't), this is primarily honeydew with very subtle watermelon notes, and the melon notes are softened by the creamy sweet vanilla. And evenif you don't like coconut notes you'll probably still like this scent because the coconut is very subtle (although they're not listed in the scent notes, even though it's part of the scent name).

Melted
Same as cold sniff, but much sweeter. It's definitely a tropical melon coconut candy scent. I'm not usually a fan of melon scents, but this one is fantastic!

Perfect for: anywhere, even the bedroom since it's not an overly foodie scent

Throw: Excellent, around a 4 out of 5

Mango Luau

Notes
Papaya sweetened with sugar, mango, guava and tropical passionfruit with hints of vanilla

Cold Sniff
This is a nice tropical fruit scent with a sour note, but it's a dupe of many other previously available sour tropical fruit scents.

Melted
Same as cold sniff.

Perfect for: kitchen or living room

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5. And the scent lasted the entire day, at least 8 hours!

Marrakesh

Notes
An exotic blend of spices accented by white sandalwood and dark musk, and softened with vanilla and patchouli

Cold Sniff
This a sweet slightly perfumey scent with a warm amber note, and there's a slight waxy note in the background, and perhaps just a smidgeon of some kind of aromatic spice. It's like a watered down version of the old "Turkish Spice Market" scent.

Melted
Same as cold sniff but I think there's a vanilla note in there as well (looking at the scent notes, there it is). It's a pleasant scent.

Perfect for: anywhere, even a bedroom or bathroom since it's not really a foodie scent

Throw: Fair to good, around a 3 out of 5.

Midnight Summer

Notes
Figs layered with Indian jasmine, ballerina rose and green notes of absinthe.

Cold Sniff
A dark floral with a hint of some kind of fruit, maybe blackberry, and a smidgeon of musk (looking at the scent notes, the blackberry I think I'm smelling is probably the fig, a note that gives scents a classy vibe). It smells a lot like last year's Blackberry Cider, but sweeter. It also smells a little like Scentsy Luna, but richer and sweeter. I guess the sweetness I'm smelling is the jasmine and rose, although this is not a floral scent. It's such a lovely scent!

Melted
When melted, it smells almost exactly like Blackberry Cider, although a little sweeter, with a bit of a "pink sugar" note, but no musk. It's a very nice scent, even a bit "sexy".

Perfect for: the bedroom

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5.

Moon Garden

Notes
Bright greens, soft fruits and sweet paper white flowers with petals of magnolia, freesia and gardenia

Cold Sniff
This one is very similar to the old Sun Kissed Tulips and last year's Sun Washed Poppies, a fruity floral with the fruit being strawberry. But it's a bit less fruity than these older scents, and with a slightly different floral note. I believe the floral is honeysuckle. I've never smelled a paperwhite flower, so I don't know if this smells authentic or not.

Melted
A wonderful honeysuckle scent with a strawberry note.

Perfect for: anywhere you want a strong fruity floral note, including the bedroom or bathroom

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5

Mountain Twilight

Notes
A cool breeze with pine and aspen, with hints of balsamic, evergreen, juicy berry, and ambered greens

Cold Sniff
This is a popular scent that has been around for a few years. This new version uses green wax and a label with green tones, but the older version was purple. However, it's the exact same scent, an intense evergreen scent with a fresh almost sage type note that borders on slightly smoky. This is more of a winter scent than a spring scent.

Melted
Same as cold sniff. It's a very intense evergreen scent, but not a sharp "pine" scent. The "sage" I smell might be the balsamic, as it does have a slight "vinegary" note. I don't smell berries at all. I've never been a fan of this scent, as it's too "biting" and the sagey note makes it smell like something is cooking on the stove, like sausage or scrapple or something. However, this is a very popular scent and a lot of people love it, so it might just be me that's not a fan!

Perfect for: Living room or kitchen. Not a good scent for bedroom. Might work in bathroom because it's so strong and would probably cover up odors!

Throw: Excellent, 5 out of 5

Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie

Notes
Strawberry with pineapple sprinkled with sugar over a natural hint of strawberry greens

Cold Sniff
A sweet, yummy, refreshing combination of pineapple and strawberry. This does smell like a smoothie, or a sweet pineapple strawberry hard candy. I'm not a fan of pineapple personally, but it smells great mixed with the strawberry. I also detect a smidgeon of coconut, although it's not in the scent notes. This is a fun, happy scent! I think kids will especially love this one.

Melted
Sweet pineapple with a strawberry note. I don't think I smell the coconut note I thought I detected on cold sniff.

Perfect for: anywhere you want a fun, happy scent, including a child's room

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5.

Serenity Spa

Notes
Fresh island coconut water with lemongrass, island palm, and coconut flower

Cold Sniff
I definitely smell the palm, which makes this scent smell a lot like the old Island Palm scent (an aromatic slightly coconutty zesty wood scent). I also smell a lemony note. And there's a sweet coconut note, but it's not very strong and it doesn't make this scent smell like a tropical scent. It doesn’t smell like the "Zen" scent (which is sweeter with a minty note), and it doesn't smell like the old "Spa" scent (which was very lemony and minty). With this scent, the palm is the predominant note, with the lemongrass in the background and just a hint of sweet coconut, and I think I smell a smidgeon of tea although it's not in the scent notes. It's a nice, relaxing scent.

Melted
I smell more of a lemony spa scent with a very slight spearmint note, even though mint is not in the scent notes. I also detect a little bit of the coconut when melted. There's something about this scent that I don't like, but I can't put my finger on it.

Perfect for: anywhere, including a bedroom or bathroom

Throw: Very good, 3.5 out of 5.

Tahiti Shores

Notes
Salted tides, beach driftwood, and sparkling marines

Cold Sniff
A bright salty ocean water scent with a strong clean soapy note and a little sweetness that might be a smidgeon of a tropical note.

Melted
Same as cold sniff. It smells like a lot of other oceany scents out there, and it has a tiny bit of an industrial odor neutralizing note.

Perfect for: bathroom

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5

Violet Cocktail

Notes
Black currant and ambered acai combine with berry blossoms and black orchid warmed by spicy star anise, amber, sandalwood and patchouli.

Cold Sniff
Warm ambery perfumey scent with a slight berry note. It smells like a girly perfume but there's just a tinge of bitterness (maybe the star anise?) that tempers the sweetness so it's not an overwhelming "pink sugar" type sweetness. The bitterness almost gives it a slightly old perfume note, but not in a bad way.

Melted
It's a little more bitter melted than on cold sniff. Generally when a scent says "cocktail" or "wine" or "champagne", it has a slightly bitter wine type fermentation note that I don't like. Thankfully with this scent it's not very strong. It doesn't smell as girly or as sweet when melted. It's an unusual but nice scent.

Perfect for: girl's bedroom, or while getting ready to go out for a night on the town with the girlfriends

Throw: Excellent, 4 out of 5, but unfortunately the scent started to dissipate in under 2 hours.

Water Lily & Lotus

Notes
Leafy greens, aquatic floralcy of water lily and lotus flower, sparkling ozone, and glittering musk

Cold Sniff
A clean spicy soapy watery scent with a hint of lemon and a smidgeon of herbal, and strong ginger note. This is not a floral scent as the name would suggest. The ozone is probably the fresh soapy watery note, and the leafy greens are the herbal note. I don't smell musk, and this is not a perfumey scent, although it might smell like a refreshing body wash. There's no lemon in the scent notes, but I swear I detect a smidgeon of bright clean lemon. And I don't know why I smell ginger, because it's not in the scent notes; in fact, this smells a lot like ScentSationals "Thai Ginger" scent, with just a couple of different notes.

Melted
It has more of a clean soapy ginger scent when melted, and I don't detect the lemony note. It doesn't smell like body wash when melted. And an hour later, it smells even more like ginger, and almost exactly like the ScentSationals Thai Ginger scent.

Perfect for: anywhere

Throw: Very good, 3.5 out of 5

Woodland Magic

Notes
Rosemary, Texas pine, and sparkling aldehydes

Cold Sniff
This one smells like lemongrass to me, with an herbal and a soapy note. It's not sweet at all, more on the savory side but not really a food scent, although it does smell a little bit like a salad, or basil. It's actually more of a spa scent… clean, refreshing, and natural, with a zesty note. It's a completely different scent from the older discontinued Woodland Magic that came out several years ago.

Melted
Same as cold sniff.

Perfect for: anywhere, including the kitchen or bedroom

Throw: Very good, 3.5 out of 5

Island Ways Duo

Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie – See review above

Fiji Islands
A very sweet fruity scent that smells like guava and pear, with maybe a hint of a watery note and a smidgeon of floral and aromatic spice. It's very nice. The ScentSationals website describes it as "Fig & Olive Leaf" but that's definitely a misprint. Throw is excellent, around a 4 out of 5.

Mixing one cube of each scent created a sweet tropical berry scent that smells mostly of pineapple, but not as much pineapple as Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie alone, and with a smidgeon of a fresh watery note in the background from the Fiji Islands scent.

Take Me to Paris Duo

Pear Blossom
This is a delicate combination of pear and floral, perhaps with a smidgeon of a baby powder note. It's not overly sweet. Throw is good, around 3 out of 5, not excellent but this scent is meant to be subtle.

Moon Garden – See review above

Mixing one cube of each scent created a toned down version of the Moon Garden scent (honeysuckle with a strawberry note, but not as sweet as Moon Garden).

Taste the Tropics Duo

Grilled Pineapple
This is a very nice pineapple scent, not overly "pineapply", and very sweet with a creamy vanilla note. Throw is very good, around a 3.5 out of 5.

Island Melon Coconut – See review above

Mixing one cube of each scent created a creamy very sweet pineapple scent with melon notes and a hint of coconut.

Living Colors Scented Wax Melts (from Big Lots) Review - Spring 2017 Scents

Living Colors Scented Wax Melts (from Big Lots) Review - Spring 2017 Scents

Living Colors Scented Wax Melts (from Big Lots) - Spring 2017 Scents
Click photo to view larger image

This is a review of Living Colors scented wax melts from Big Lots (new Spring 2017 scents). Living Colors wax melts are made by MVP Group International, the same company that makes Mainstays (for Walmart), Colonial Candles, Burt's Bees, and K-Mart & Sears wax.
Living Colors comes out with new scents every few months. But sometimes the scent names don't match the scent. Many Living Colors melts have very weak or zero throw. Some may do well in a very small room like a bathroom.
Check out my other Living Colors scented wax reviews at http://www.scentedwaxreviews.com/search?q=living+colors.

Here are the new Spring 2017 scents I bought (there are a couple of others, but I didn't buy them either because they were very weak on cold sniff or too similar to scents I already have):

Sweet Cherries - Smells fantastic on cold sniff, like a creamy vanilla cherry with a slightly perfumey note. But unfortunately throw is not good, but might do well in a tiny room like a bathroom.

Fresh Linen - Smells like a nice clean laundry detergent with slightly floral notes. Throw is fair to good and would be best in a smaller room, but scent started dissipating after only about a half hour.

Cool Rain - A fresh soapy watery scent with a slight woodsy note and smidgeon of mint. Weak throw, but might work okay in a tiny room like a bathroom.

Sweet Pea - Smells like sweet pea or cherry blossom scented body wash or skin lotion. It's very nice, and throw is very good!

Lavender Chamomile - A beautiful scent, smells like a warm ambery lavender. Throw is very good.

Thai Lily - "meh" scent, kind of floral with some other boring notes, weak throw.

Aqua Mint Verbena - Another "meh" scent, smells like lemon iced tea but not as good, throw not very good.

Colonial Candle Simmersnaps Wax Melts Review

Colonial Candle Simmersnaps Wax Melts Review

Colonial Candle Simmersnaps Wax Melts
Click photo to view larger image

This will be my last purchase from Colonial Candle. Too many of their Simmersnaps scents suffer from poor throw, which is ashame because the quality of their scents is fantastic, rich and complex. All of their Simmersnaps melts have a small hole on the top of the package. When scent is exposed to the air, it can dissipate over time. I assumed that throw was poor on a lot of the melts I had been buying because the scents had been out for a long time. However, these 4 scents are brand new for 2017, so there's no reason why one of them should have zero throw, and another should dissipate in under 2 hours.

Take a look at my other Colonial Candles Simmersnaps Wax Melts reviews at http://www.scentedwaxreviews.com/search?q=colonial.

Denim & Lace
Notes: Clean and calming florals combine with nuzzly musk, soft denim, and a delicate lace
A pleasant musky floral with an apple note, although I don't see apple in the scent notes. Not very strong on cold sniff, and almost zero throw. When melted, I can barely smell it even from close up.

Wild Ivy
Notes: Shimmering red berry with fresh-cut rose, silver driftwood, and English ivy
This smells a little like ScentSationals Vanilla Woods or Better Homes & Gardens Pure White Woods. I smell light woods first (there's the driftwood in the scent notes) with a floral note (I don't smell rose per se though). I don't smell berries at all, even though that's the first scent note. It's a nice scent, and throw is fairly good, around a 3 out of 5.

Sugared Violet Petals
Notes: Peony with powdery violet
This smells almost exactly like ScentSationals Violet Sugar, but sweeter. It's very strong on cold sniff, a fantastic sweet warm floral with a note of richness that almost gives it a foody quality. It doesn't smell like violets, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't smell like peony either (which I believe has a rose note). It's almost like a "pink sugar" type scent, very sweet almost like cotton candy, but then there's a very warm kind of ambery note that makes it very rich. And unlike most Colonial Candles wax melts, this one is a scent monster and takes over the entire house, a 5 out of 5 throw! But unfortunately the scent dissipated in under 2 hours.

Limeade
Notes: A sparkling burst of lime blended with fresh green notes of agave nectar and crisp herbaceous notes
This is a lime scent with a fresh watery note. It's not overly sweet (even with the agave nectar), probably due to the herbaceous notes. I guess it does smell like lemonade but made with limes (limes are slightly more bitter), but the herbaceous notes give it a slight lemongrass note, so it's not overly citrusy. I think it's more of a fresh "atmospheric" lime scent, like being outside on a warm breezy day in the middle of a lime grove. It's a nice scent, and throw is very good, around a 3.5 out of 5.

I did not get the new Pink Guava and Soft Peony scents since they seemed to be similar to a lot of scents I already have.

The following were on sale for $0.50 each. I don't know if these scents will be back next season:

Bubbling Cauldron
Notes: Macintosh apples, soft musk, sweet vanilla cream, and bourbon toffee
A buttery caramel note but not very sweet, with an apple note, a little bit of musky perfume, and maybe a slight note of light wood.  When melted, I don't smell the wood, just a rich, sweet butterscotch caramel scent with a hint of apple, but it's not really a foodie scent because of the warm ambery musk note. Very nice scent, and throw is very good, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.

Enchanted Spell
Notes: Juicy red fruits, peony and rose petals, with sweet cream
I smell fruit but I'm not sure what kind, maybe apples and berries. And there's a hint of floral. It's a nice scent, and not overly sweet.  Throw is not good, around a 2 or maybe 2.5 out of 5.

Spooky Nights
Notes: Black pepper, rich amber, and warm woods
Another one that's weak on cold sniff, although it smells fantastic. I smell tobacco primarily, with maybe a slight warm amber note and possibly a smidgeon of leather. It also has a waxy note which will hopefully disappear when it melts. Throw was only fair, around a 2.5 out of 5, and unfortunately it retained that waxy note when melted.

Glowing Jack O'Lanterns
Notes: Blood orange, soft florals, sandalwood, and warm musk
Scent is very weak on cold sniff, so I'm not sure what I'm smelling. Maybe a little bit of orange with a floral and maybe creamy vanilla in the background. Looking at the scent notes, there's the orange and floral. I don't smell sandalwood or musk. Throw is good, around a 3 out of 5.

And these last two were on sale for $1.80:

Fireside S'Mores
Notes: Fireside glow with hints of crackling woods and amber
This smells like sweet condensed milk or a very sweet milky vanilla with a little bit of marshmallow. I also do smell the warm ambery notes, but not any woodsy or smoky notes. I think I do smell a smidgeon of graham cracker. Throw is good, around a 3 out of 5.

Vintage Christmas
Notes: Clove, cedar leaf, and pine with a burst of amber
I didn't like this scent at all. It has a strong sage note that reminds me of sausage or scrapple, but not in a good way because there's a little bit of sweetness that seems odd against the sage note, and a slightly moldy note in the background. I think I do smell clove and cedar, but those other notes ruin it. Throw was quite good though, around a 3 or 3.5 out of 5.
